Much to my chagrin Sasha keeps me there for another twenty minutes, asking endless questions. We finally finish up and I get up to leave when another woman knocks and walks into the room. She introduces herself as Lauren, the owner of Adore. I shake her hand quickly and explain I really need to get back to work. She insists that I contact her if I have any additional questions.

“I think Sasha covered everything with me. She is certainly thorough,” I say.If she weren’t so damn thorough, I would have been out of here a long time ago.

“She just wants to get it right for you. Find you some suitable dates. We always have our clients' best interests at heart and sometimes that takes a little time.”

I nod, shake both of their hands and head out the door.

The rain has passed and the sun is starting to peak through the clouds. Peter is waiting for me when I walk out of the building. Getting into the car and settling into the back, I grabmy phone to check texts and emails that came in while I was in the meeting.

Unfortunately, there has been no forward movement on the deal in the last hour. Thankfully though, Laney was able to locate the file that had gone missing.

Staring out the window I look at the people walking by. I’m not sure how I feel about this whole matchmaking thing. Will they really be able to find me women, or even one woman, who matches my criteria? Sasha seems competent enough, but it feels like she might be new to her job. There was something off-putting about her. She was professional but also came off as judgy.

I wonder whether Sasha herself is in a relationship. She is certainly very attractive and, damn, those eyes are mesmerizing. It must be odd to be a matchmaker, meeting new men every week who are looking for their perfect match. I wonder if she ever meets anyone she finds tempting. My guess is she isn’t permitted to date clients. That could certainly be problematic.

Peter pulls up to the front door and I get out quickly and head through the door.

Back to pushing this deal up a very steep hill.

Chapter 3

Sasha

“Well, we both totally knew he was going to be difficult. These wealthy guys usually are. But, damn, I didn’t realize he’d be so hot,” Lauren practically drools.

“Yeah, I suppose so. He’s a bit of a jerk though, don’t you think? And how the hell am I going to find him exactly what he’s looking for?”

“It’s going to take some searching but I’m sure if you look hard enough and get a little creative, you’ll figure it out.”

I had already been trolling our database searching for women that match up with all of Spencer’s requirements. So far, I’ve found one woman thatmaywork. I’m going to have to do some serious networking in order to find more candidates.

He’s definitely attractive – tall, with a nice build and dresses well. Great shoes. I always check out a man’s shoes to get a feel for what’s important to him. If he wants to project a good impression, the shoes must be impeccable.

I also noticed Spencer’s eyes are quite unusual. A gray-green color with a darker ring around the iris that really makes them pop. And his eyebrows are strong and well-groomed. I personally have a thing for eyebrows and that’s usually one of the first things I notice about a man’s face.

“He does have great brows,” I say to Lauren.

“Girl, you are all about the brows. What’s up with that?”

“I don’t know,” I shrug. “I’ve been like that for as long as I can remember.”

Lauren and I talk for a while about how to deal with some of our more difficult clients. She explains it’s just part of running a high-priced service business. The clients expect a LOT. She tells me this hilarious story about a female client she had 6 months ago who was looking for a man who was cool with the fact that she had ten cats. She was insanely wealthy and each cat had its own bedroom. They had names like Sir Fluffington and Kitty Chanel.

“She was almost impossible to match but I eventually found the perfect guy for her, and they are happily married after only dating for 3 months.”

“You are amazing, Lauren. Teach me your ways,” I say.

“So, how about you?” Lauren asks, changing the subject. “Been on any dates lately? Other than your speed dating dates?” she giggles, while I swat at her arm for bringing it up.

“I’m still having nightmares about that event,” I say, rolling my eyes. “But, to answer your question… no, I’m really not ready. I’m still having a hard time getting past what Travis did to me. I’ve been through it with my therapist a million times, but I still just want to kill him.”

Lauren looks at me with sad eyes.

My ex-boyfriend, Travis, turned out to be a total asshole. We had been together for two years when I came home early from a girls' trip and showed up at his place unannounced to surprisehim. I definitely succeeded. The oh-shit expression was all over his face as I let myself in and he walked hurriedly out of his bedroom to see who it was. He was naked except for a pair of boxers and his hair was ruffled. At first, I thought he had maybe just slept in after some late-night partying. But, his awkward behavior quickly tipped me off to the fact that something else was going on.

I heard a female voice from his bedroom call out his name and my stomach dropped. Travis and I stood there looking at each other for a moment, both of us apparently in a state of shock. Then, out walks a busty fake blonde wearingmysilk robe.

“Who’s this?” she’d asked, seeming to have no idea that Travis had a girlfriend.
