“What’s going on?”

“Well, we had a new client come in for the intake today. And, he was short with me and didn’t really want to take the time to answer my questions.”

“So, he was hoping you’d be a mind reader, huh?” she says, frowning.

“I suppose so. He was late for his appointment to begin with and then kept looking at his phone like he had more important things to do.”

“Is he some big-shot surgeon or something?”

“No, he owns a commercial real estate company,” I reply, watching Annabelle giggle while she makes the dog ride on a cow.

“Hmm… would I know him?” Lindy is a realtor and knows a lot of people in the industry.

“I don’t know. And you know I’m not supposed to tell you his name.”

“Yes, but you know you always do…” she says.

“True.” I laugh. ”His name is Spencer Sullivan.”

“Oh, yeah, I definitely know who that is. He is like THE commercial real estate guy. Everyone knows who he is. And, incase you didn’t know it, he’s totally loaded. I’m surprised he has a hard time finding dates.”

“I’m sure plenty of women want to go out with him. But, he’ssuperpicky. He knows what he’s looking for and isn’t willing to budge on his preferences. I looked for hours to find candidates. And that, my dear sister, is why I had a tough day and really needed this glass of wine,” I say, draining the glass and reaching out my hand for another one.

She tears herself away from the lasagna prep to pour me another glass.

“You’re the best,” I say, and I really mean it. Lindy and I aren’t just sisters. We are the best of friends. Except for a few years in high school when we fought a lot, we have always really liked hanging out together and even go on trips together occasionally.

“You’re just saying that because I’m making you lasagna.”

I grin at her and take another sip of wine.

“So, I notice you’re not drinking any wine tonight. Any particular reason?” I say, raising my brow.

“Oh… no, not that. I just have a little headache and the wine will most likely make it worse.”

“Shoot… I was hoping…” Lindy and Dan have been trying to get pregnant for over a year now with no luck. They are starting to feel desperate and wondering whether they will have to use extreme measures to make it happen this time. Lindy got pregnant so easily the first time around and they figured it would be the same this time.

“Yeah… we’re still trying. If Dan was ever home and awake for more than an hour a day, it might be easier.”

I look at her sympathetically. “It’s got to happen soon.”

“I certainly hope so. I’m starting to get really frustrated with the whole thing.”

I get up from the floor and give Lindy a big hug. Annabelle notices someone other than her is getting attention and grunts loudly, showing her displeasure.

“The princess calls,” I say and we both laugh.

After an amazing dinner, I head home. I’m greeted by Sage at the door, insisting I feed her asap.

“Alright, girl, alright…”

Having an attentive cat to welcome me when I get home is great but I want more than that. I want it all. The husband, the babies, the cozy houseandthe damn cat.
