The frown appeared again. “I’m happy to walk you through them.”

“I was actually planning to ask somebody else to help.” She gave the doctor a sly smile.

“Ooh.” Thorpe winked. “Sure, I get it. I’ll email you the recommended exercises.”

“Great. Do you know what Rory’s favorite sport is?”

“Basketball, I think. Why?”

Of course it would be one she knew nothing about. Maybe that could work in her favor. “There’s a court downstairs, right?”

“A half court, yes.” Thorpe eyed her suspiciously. “What are you thinking?”

“Just curious. I’ll look for that list.”

Thorpe had a spring in her step on the way out.

At least one of them was happy.

Vivi expected her day to get better when Ian showed up. He said nothing but came to her side of the desk and drew her out of the chair for a kiss.

His hands went to her waist and he crushed her against him, bending her backward as he thoroughly ravaged her mouth and swept his tongue inside to dance with hers.

They nearly ended up on the desk in various stages of undress, but her phone rang, interrupting them. “Don’t answer it,” he said, his lips against her neck.

She laughed low and pushed him away, even though she didn’t want to. “I’m waiting on a supply of virtual reality goggles and software. That’s Connor. He’s probably letting me know they were delivered.”

“For what?”

She answered the phone, rather than him. “Yes?” It was what she expected. “You don’t have to bring them up. I’ll send Ian to get them.”

Her husband gave her a hound dog look. “Virtual reality, huh? Sounds like you’re getting back into the swing of things.”

She fixed her shirt, then his. “You sound disappointed.”

He glanced away. “No, I’m glad, actually, it’s just…”

She placed her hands on either side of his face and made him look at her. “Just what?”

“I thought you didn’t want to stay here. Didn’t want to practice professionally again.”

She didn’t, did she? It seemed she couldn’t escape it, though. “I’m helping Sloane.” And maybe Rory and those on Connor’s list. “Would it bother you if I did more than that?”

He kissed her forehead. “If you want to, then I’m good with it.”

His tone seemed to contradict the statement. “But?”

“Nothing.” He turned away. “It’s stupid.”

“Hey.” She caught his arm and stopped him from walking out. “It’s not stupid. Tell me.”

“I thought maybe we’d go somewhere, start over. Get that house we talked about. Work on a family.”

Ah. “I want those things, too.”

Those green eyes searched hers. “But…?”

“I have to get my memories back, figure out what happened that night. I need to clear my name. We’re on the same page with that, right?”
