He held her close. “No thanks needed. You’re all I want, Genevieve Montgomery.”

She pushed slowly up onto her elbow and stared down into his face. “That’s Montgomery-Kincaid, I’ll have you know.”

Slipping his hand to the back of her head, he gently guided her in for a kiss.

It turned hotter, more demanding, but when she grimaced a moment later, he stopped. “You need to eat.”

She sighed. “And take a bath.”

“I can help with that.” He gave her a disarming grin. “I’m quite good at underwater techniques.”

She laughed. “And since you’re going to be my round-the-clock bodyguard”—she batted her lashes—“I must train you to meet my every wish.”

He waggled his brows. “Sounds like strenuous work.”

“I’m very demanding.”

His grin broadened and he stroked her back. “I can hardly wait.”

She pointed at the tray. “Care to feed me?”

He sat them both up slowly and snagged a strawberry. Brushing the fruit over her lips, he nearly moaned when her tongue came out to taste it. “I think you’ve hypnotized me,” he teased, then made a face. “Too soon?”

She playfully punched his belly. “I have a lot to process but Dr. Lippenstein will help, once he’s back on his feet. I’m not happy about what took place, but I’m not going to live scared of being used and manipulated again. It won’t happen because I have you by my side. Now, feed me, husband.”

He held out the strawberry. “Gladly, wife.”

She ate everything on the tray he’d brought for her and half of his sandwich, as well. When they finished, he bathed her, careful of her bandages and then tucked her under the covers.

As she spooned against him, he stared at the ceiling and thought about the future. A week ago, he hadn’t had one. Had wanted to die because he’d erroneously believed he’d killed the woman next to him.

How things had changed. He now had all he’d ever wanted, and it was because of the same woman. Tugging her closer and enjoying the way she sighed contentedly, he closed his eyes.

He finally had a family. Vivi. SFI. A real, honest-to-god family. Life was better than good and he planned to enjoy every moment of it.
