Just then, a knock came to the door and his attention moved to it. He frowned silently and stared and this was somewhat peculiar so I couldn’t help but be a bit startled. Then he got up and holding my hand in his, we walked together toward the door. Just before we arrived the door was pulled open and James came in. He seemed somewhat worried as his attention moved between me and his boss.

“They’re here?” Lucien asked and he nodded.

“Yes, sir.”

Lucien shook his head, and I wondered what was wrong but when we eventually headed out and arrived at the elevators I soon understood.

The elevators we were waiting for came open and a man and a woman dressed impeccably in suits appeared before us.

Huge, hearty smiles spread across their faces as they saw us and we all exchanged handshakes. I remained in slight shock through all of this because, of course, I knew who they were. He introduced me as his fiancé and they continued on their way toward his office.

“Eckhart and Guild?” I asked. “You have business with them? I thought your company had different lawyers?”

I caught myself then as I realized that I was bombarding him with questions. I instantly stopped. “Sorry,” I smiled in apology. “I got carried away.”

He watched me and then he leaned forward to brush my hair over my shoulders. “I know you want to work with them,” he said and my heart dropped into my stomach. For the longest time, I couldn’t speak but eventually, I realized that my suspicion was right.

“So… they’re not here because you have business with them as lawyers?”

“I do have business with them,” he said calmly. However, he didn’t say more and instead pulled me slightly closer to him. He stared into my eyes but when he started to lean down to kiss me I put up a hand gently against his face to stop it. This made him laugh.

“You’re not doing what I think you’re doing are you?”

“I didn’t exactly want you to know about it,” he said, and my mouth fell open. His assistant’s nervousness finally made sense to me.

Once again my heart began to race as so many questions came to mind. I didn’t know which to start with but when he glanced backward I knew that ultimately I had to go straight to the point.

“You’re trying to put in a word for me so that they employ me eventually?”

“As soon as you're done with law school.”

I was shocked.

“They only accept from Harvard.”

“Not after I give them a chunk of my business.”

My eyes misted but still, I had to state the obvious. “This is nepotism.”

“I don’t give a fuck,” he said. “You’ve told me several times that it has been your dream for the longest time to work for them but they’d never employ you. They’d better now.”

I couldn’t stop my smile.

“So… they’ll guarantee it?”

“They’d better,” he said and my heart couldn’t stop dancing. He leaned forward once again to kiss me and I completely lost myself in it. His tongue stroked sensually against mine while I held onto him for dear life. Once again I was shaking with excitement all over and by the time we pulled away I was barely able to speak. But still, I ensured to say the words that I hoped he would never tire of hearing.

“I love you, Lucien,” I said and he pressed one last kiss to my cheek. “I love you too, baby.”

The End
