The first thing was to revise the slide with him, so I sent a quick message to Sophie to help me out with handling the matter of Michael and our transportation, and then I headed to his office.

Once again, I knocked, and he didn't respond, so I waited aggravated until his secretary spoke.

"He doesn't usually respond, you know this, right? Just go in."

"Right," I said and pulled down the handle. "Sure, I forgot."

I headed into the office then and realized that I was quite nervous to see him.

As our eyes connected, I was once again struck by how handsome he was. He was impeccably dressed in a pinstriped waistcoat and a crisp white shirt, and his hair was neatly brushed away from his face.

His green eyes were almost hazel and even the glint of annoyance in his gaze was just dangerous enough to add to his appeal.

Though I told myself this wasn't the reason why I was nervous around him.

No, it was because Sophie's job was at stake, and so far, I wasn't doing my best to keep it. So many mistakes were already made, and I foresaw with the way things were going that it wasn't about to get better.

"What is happening with you?" he asked as I arrived before his desk. "Why are you suddenly so slow and sloppy?"

He wasn't trying to be rude or abrasive. He genuinely seemed curious as to why I wasn't as efficient as before, but he couldn't know the truth either, could he?

"I'm sorry, sir," was all I said, and then I went around his desk, deciding to be a bit more assertive. I truly was acting like I was a stranger and knew nothing about him, and this wasn't the case at all.

I got this one right because he wasn't startled at all about the proximity. He took the iPad from me to flip through the slides, but by the time we got to the end, he frowned in confusion.

"Where are the edits I asked you to include this morning?"

I stared at him. "I included them," I responded and began to flip to where I had indeed edited the points; however, he didn't look away from me.

"Those are the ones from the list, what about the additions in the voice note?"

Holy fucking shit.

I was frozen then, and for the first time in a very long time, I was stumped because I had no response for this.

"Uh…" I straightened then and took a few very embarrassing steps away from the scorch of his gaze. "I'm sorry, but I think I missed it."

He didn't say a word. Instead, he stared at me as though he couldn't quite believe what I had just said. And then he returned to his work without further word. I immediately turned around to exit the office, and it took everything in me not to run because truly we were out of time. I slipped my AirPods in and began to listen and soon enough, I was able to get the gist of his changes. I immediately started to implement them. I did wonder why Larry wasn't the one handling this but when I saw that he was hard at work at his desk I couldn't complain. Eventually, the clock struck eleven, and like clockwork, he came out of his office. I almost cried out in frustration. He didn't say a word to me, but I could feel his gaze as he put on his jacket and then meant to head out.

I immediately disconnected my laptop from the desktop, grabbed my phone and purse, and was on my way. I slowed down when I met him waiting in the elevator lobby and decided to wait for the next one so that I could continue my work in peace. However, when he got in and kept waiting for me, I had no choice but to comply.

He now seemed thoroughly annoyed, but I managed to take my mind off this so that I could concentrate. Soon we arrived on the ground floor and strolled past the reception until eventually, we were outside. However, as we met an empty curb, it hit me then that the issue with his transportation was still not resolved.

He looked at the curb and then looked at me, yet I had no answers. I was saved by the bell because just then my phone began to ring.

The moment I pulled it out of my pocket I saw that it was me calling, I briefly walked away and picked up.

"Car service will be there in a few minutes," Sophie said. "Are you two outside yet? Find a way to delay him."

"Yes, we're outside," I replied as low as possible, and then I ended the call when I saw him turn to me.

"Where's Michael?" he asked, and for a few seconds, I was stumped, wondering how to answer this question and get myself out of this mess.

"Uh… Brooklyn," I replied. "He went to get your suits."

"Is he close by?" He asked, and I shook my head.

"No, he isn't, but I've hired a car service."
