Sighing, I hurried back into the building and was almost sprinting back to Sophie’s desk to retrieve his key. “Remember to collect all business materials from the development team,” she shouted into my ears, and I nearly gave up then. The moment I got into the elevator, I instantly retrieved my flatsfrom my purse and exchanged them for heels. I felt a bit more relaxed and able to handle all the challenges heading my way.

We drove to his apartment, which was thankfully nearby first, and through a video call, Sophie was able to show me where everything was. For a long second, I was shocked by the size of his apartment and the views. Only a few warm lamps were on, but the panoramic view of the skyline overlooking Manhattan and Central Park was something that I needed a few moments to process.

“Why the heck aren’t I rich?” I complained, and she laughed.

“Don’t worry, you will be someday, but for now, let’s try to prevent the rich guy from firing you, I mean, me.”

I headed to his walk-in closet, found his suitcase under her direction, and in a little time, I was done. “Bathroom toiletries,” she called, and I hurried to pack those as well. In fifteen minutes, I was walking out, and Michael was ready to take me to my apartment. He was a bit surprised when I gave him my apartment address instead of Sophie’s.

"You moved recently?" he asked.

“I’m staying with my sister for a little while,” I explained, and thankfully, he didn’t ask any further. I hurried to grab my clothes and passport put away the casserole I made earlier that morning to be consumed for dinner and was on my way.

We arrived more than twenty minutes late, but by then, I didn’t care because I was dodging the chaos. We got word that he was already on the plane waiting, so Michael drove me straight to the tarmac, where I was assisted in carrying all the materials and belongings. It was a gorgeous plane, quite sizable, and as I saw it, I couldn’t help but feel somehow excited about this entire adventure.

Even better was the view I was met with. What caught my eyes first was the warm, polished wood and leather interior of the cabin. The entire cabin reeked of exorbitant wealth and Icouldn’t help but feel somewhat envious. Speaking of the man himself, he seemed rather relaxed. He had long taken off his coat and tie and had a few buttons opened.

There was a long sofa on the right, where he had settled in for the night. He had a leg crossed over his other knee and was casually scrolling through his phone.

It was my job, and I appreciated every bit of it thus far, but I really wanted to be the one finally getting to relax while everyone else ran around to make sure my life ran smoothly. Sophie didn’t mind this kind of service-related work, but unless there was ridiculous money involved, then a part of me always felt a little bit resentful.

Quickly, I ensured everything was out in its place, and then finally, I got to settle into one of the single seats in the cabin. There was a table in front, and I wanted to lay my head down, but I couldn’t until he had retired to bed and was no longer in the vicinity.

“Did you collect all the needed files for the presentation from the team?” He asked, and I nodded.

“Yeah, sir,” I did.

“What about Nioly?” He asked. “Have you contacted him to inform him that since he couldn’t come to us, we would be coming to him?”

My heart nearly stopped in my chest as he mentioned it, and so, for what had to now be the umpteenth time in one day, I became sheepish and afraid to meet his gaze.

“You haven’t contacted him yet?” He asked, and I truly didn’t know how to answer it. For one, I could give the excuse that I had been busy trying to get everything ready for the trip as he had asked, but I couldn’t exactly say this because the basic essential quality of a good personal assistant was not only your ability to multitask but your ability to handle the most common sense of things without being asked or reminded.

The fact that he was even mentioning it to me was quite embarrassing, and so my options were either to apologize once again or to fabricate something. After all, there was no way he could check until we were back on the ground.

“I have, sir,” I said, and he cocked his head at me.

“You have?”

“Yes, I contacted his camp and they’re in the process of facilitating this. He stared at me for a moment but didn’t say a word and I didn’t care. There was Wi-Fi readily available, and so, although doing my best to appear as flustered as possible, I texted Sophie to handle this.

She knew everything I didn’t know about the man and his company operations, so all I had to do was make her understand the gravity of the situation with Lucien being on my ass, and she got her ass out of bed, but of course not without complaining first.

Sophie: You’re the best PA I thought I knew, but so far I haven’t enjoyed this benefit in the slightest. Are you really as good as you say you are?

I wanted to kill her, but I contained my temper and put the phone away.

Being in such close proximity to him was disconcerting, to say the least, but eventually, given just how much reading I had to do in the materials I had received, I focused my attention on working, and soon afterwards he got up and disappeared into a cabin.

I called Sophie immediately.

“How’s it going?”

“He’s been made aware of the intention, but final approval and a set appointment time have not yet been given.”

“That’s a lot of bogus words,” I said, and she sighed.

“I’m supposed to be resting, Scarlett,” she said, and I almost shot back, but once again I held back.
