I grinned. "You mean I'm hot? Yeah, I get it."

She smiled, but her gaze began to rove over my face in earnest.

"What are you thinking?" I asked worriedly.

"You know what I'm thinking."

My eyebrows nearly shot up to my hairline, and I began to shake my head. "No… no… no…"

"Oh please, Scarlett. Can you?"

I watched her. "You're serious?"

"Why not? We've done it so many times."

"That was when we were kids," I stated, still shaking my head.

"No, we did it in college and during your internship, at that first company you worked for. I did it because you needed my help. I did it for you. Will you do it for me?"

I kept staring at her, then I looked away.

I heard her sigh. "It's okay if you don't want to do it? We haven't been too close these past few years, have we? Because I instead invested all my time with that jerk."

"We're twins," I said softly. "Even though we drift apart sometimes, we'll always have each other and no one else."

She smiled then and leaned against me, resting her head on my shoulder. She remained silent for a few blocks further, and then she brought it up once again.

"So…" she said. "Do you think you can pull it off?"

I considered her request. It felt too strange to be her after all these years. We were not kids or in college anymore.

"Are you able to leave your current job?"

"I always can," I replied. "That's one of the benefits of going the freelance route."

"When was your contract due to end?" she asked.

"I still have a month and a half left," I replied.

"Oh…" she said, her voice forlorn.

"Don't worry," I told her. "It's not hard for me to find another place. I'll help you out. Just tell me that your current workload is not much. What do I have to deal with this coming week?"

She smiled at me and told a blatant lie. "Not much at all."

I narrowed my gaze at her and she looked away quickly.

Oh my God! I knew that look. It was going to be a mad week.

"Whatever it is, I'll handle it. But wait, where is your company located? In Manhattan?"

She bit her bottom lip. "Yes."

I sucked in a breath through my teeth.

"A bit too far from Soho?"

"A bit," I replied.
