"I can pay for your taxi for the week?" she suggested.

"You don't have to do that."

"It's no trouble, I know you hate the subway, plus Montgomery pays quite handsomely, so it's not a problem."

"Montgomery?" I asked, and she nodded.

"My boss. His name is Lucien. Montgomery is his surname."

"Ah, so that's where the company name Montgomery Holdings comes from?"

"Yeah," she replied.

"And he's filthy rich, right?"

"Net worth is just under two billion."

"Wow. How ancient is he?"

"Thirty-two years old," she replied.

My mouth nearly fell open. "What?"

"Young, huh?"

I nodded. "Way too young. I was hoping he was an elderly boss who could barely see. Then it would be most likely that we could get away with this."

She thought about this, parted her lips, but closed them back.

"What?" I asked.

"He acts quite aloof like he doesn't know anything, but sometimes I'm able to listen to his conversations, and I'm actually amazed by how much he knows. About the company, about everything. Like we're situated on various floors, and sometimes I hear what is going on just by listening to him. I low-key think there's a spy somewhere in the office that silently feeds him information; otherwise, I have no clue how he literally knows everything happening at a given time."

"So he's nosy?" I asked.

"Not nosy but vigilant, I think is the appropriate word. His day has to be completely organized, and he has a huge client he's planning on signing this week," she said, stopping at the realization of the magnitude of her workload.

"Wow," she said to herself as she thought. "This is truly a bad time to leave. I'll wait for the week to run out, maybe some other-"

Suddenly her phone began to ring, so she got up and pulled the phone out of her pocket. She, however, didn't respond. Instead, she stared at it until I was forced to check who it was. Montgomery was written as the caller.

"Is that him?" I asked.

"Yeah," she said, and then to my surprise, she passed the phone over to me.

"What?"

"Answer it," she said. "Our voices are similar, but I think my pitch is slower than yours. Let's see, first of all, if he'll notice the difference."

I stared at the phone as it continued to ring, all the while she urged it toward me.

"Answer it," she said, but I hesitated. Eventually, I sighed, but just as I accepted it, it disconnected.

I started to hand it over, but she stopped me. "He'll call back. He wouldn't be calling if it wasn't important."

"That's good, at least he doesn't disturb you."

"Oh no, he does. He doesn't call me late because he doesn't have to. I'll probably be in the office working late with him."
