"I thought about it," she said, "and to be honest, I don’t know why I was mad at you. I mean, you didn’t do everything perfectly, but I was quite dramatic earlier. I was accusing you of sabotaging my job on purpose. That’s insane."

I lowered my gaze as I processed her words.

"Sometimes it felt like that was what I did."

She turned to me, "Oh, you did ruin it alright, but not on purpose, hence why it's pointless to be mad at you."

I managed a sheepish smile.

"You look sad," she said. "Do you feel sad?"

I automatically wanted to lie, but at the last moment, I asked myself what was the point of that, and there was none.

"I was when I came here," I replied. "Immensely. But now not so much. Sugar and alcohol are the cure to everything."

She looked amused. "Tell me this," she said. "Honestly. Was it just a lust thing? Do you like him at all?"

Once again, I was given the option of lying, and I wanted to take it, but I needed to talk to someone, and better her than anyone else, so I nodded.

"Yeah, I like him a lot. That's why I had to stop."

"You didn’t think you’d be able to leave if you kept going to the end?" she asked. "Why though? It was just a day or two left."

I considered her words and then released a heavy sigh. "He asked me to somewhat become exclusive with him," I said. "Yesterday." Saying it now sounded so strange to me because it felt as though all of this happened eons ago, however, it was just yesterday. I almost couldn't believe it.

Sophie couldn't believe what I was saying either because her eyes were somewhat agape as she stared at me.

"Really?" she asked, and I nodded. "What? Lucien Montgomery?"

"Does he have a secret girlfriend somewhere that no one knows about?" I joked. However, she replied bluntly.

"No, he does not, it's just that he’s never really taken dating seriously, but now in so short a time, he wants to be exclusive with you? Like a real relationship."

I thought of explaining the rest of it to her, but there was no point, and so I kept it to myself.

"If…" she started. "If I wasn't coming back, and you were working for him, would you have agreed to it?" she asked.

And this question I didn't have to think about.

"Yes," I replied. "I would."

"So you held back because of me?"

"Not because of you," I replied, "but because of us. We deceived him majorly, and we should thank God if he doesn't eventually find us and chew the shit out of us, but that's by the way. The real issue is that if he finds out, he’s sure to be mad and never want anything to do with any of us ever again.

"Yeah, right," she said, and then she sighed. "Let's stop talking about him," she said. "Whatever will be will be, or perhaps we can start trying to fix what we can tomorrow, but for now, I don't want to think about Lucien or his office.”

"Sure, but we need to think about what we will do with the changed hair situation," I said, and she nodded.

"You're right. Damn, I wish you had just told him from the beginning that it was a wig. Now I have to cut my hair and dye it black. Absolutely not. I can't do that, so you're right, we need to think of a way to fix this problem.”

I thought about what she was saying; however, I couldn't come up with any explanations.

"Maybe I should wear a dark wig instead?" She turned to me then to ask. "And then like in a month switch to my hair and say that I let it grow out and changed the hair color back.”

"No one's hair grows that fast," I pointed out this very obvious fact to her.

"Well, what's he going to do? Question how fast my hair can grow?" she asked, and I shook my head.
