"You're so salty today," I said, and she nodded.

"It was a very salty day. Also, weight gain," she said. "I started baking again this week to see if I could add a little more meat to my bones. Is it working?" she asked as she threw off the blanket from her body. However, she was wearing baggy home clothes and curved in an awkward position.

"I have no clue," I replied, “but I'll check later when you've gotten up."

"Sure," she said and threw the covers over her once again.

We both settled in to watch the series, yet we kept the television muted and turned on subtitles instead. And so the night drifted quite easily until just a few minutes before midnight, there was a knock on the door. I instantly knew it was her fiancé, and I couldn't help but be pissed at the interruption.

"Is that Jerald?" I asked. However, I realized that she was looking at the door as well and frowning deeply.

"Jerald left town on a business trip," she said. "Why would he be back here?"

She rose to her feet.

"Are you expecting anyone?" I asked, and she shook her head as she headed over to the door.

"Not this late.”

I was curious as well, but not curious enough to turn to watch the door as she answered it, so I kept my gaze on the screen until eventually I heard her speaking.

Her words were muted, so I didn’t quite hear anything she was saying, but eventually, she shut the door, and then she just stood by it.

"What is it?" I asked.

"What’s the time?" she replied, and I wondered why she was asking this. However, at the expression on her face, which was quite blank and even just a tad bit terrified, my heart jumped. I knew that there was something wrong, and my mind instantly went to Jerald.

"Is everything okay?" I asked.

"Is it midnight yet?" She asked, and I grabbed my phone.

"Twenty after," I replied, and she released a heavy sigh. Then she hit her hair and began to head over.

She stood before me and then she explained.

"That was Felix," she said; however, the name didn't ring a bell.

"You haven’t met him so far, have you? It makes sense that you haven’t; you were the one being investigated."

At my words, everything inside of me went still.

"What? Investigated? By who?"

Even as I asked these questions, I knew where and to whom it was all pointing. My heart was already beating so fast, and my stomach began to roil.

"Lucien," Sophie explained.

For the next full minute, I was struck speechless because I didn’t know what to say, and then I became confused. Questions flooded my head, and I didn’t even know which to address first.

"Why? I mean, did he know that I wasn’t you?"

Despite my dread, a small part of me I realized was hopeful that all along he had realized the difference. That all along he knew.

"I don’t know," she replied. "I don’t know anything. All I know is that Felix said he wants to see me right now."

"Right now? In his home?"

"Office," she replied, and then she sighed.
