“I’m just picking up some food,” Ava said.

“You know what? You should eat it with us. Our food is here. Where’s yours?” Camilla asked.

“Oh, no. I don’t want to intrude. It looks like you guys are on a date,” Ava said.

“Oh, Logan won’t mind. We just came out to get a quick bite to eat. Right?” Camilla said. Her eyes panned over to me for only the second time that evening since I had picked her up from her place.

“Yep. Just a quick bite. Nothing special,” I said.

“Eat with us. Please? I haven’t seen you all week,” Camilla said

“You saw me three days ago,” Ava said.

“And it seems like all week!” Camilla exclaimed.

My girlfriend sat down and scooted over in the booth. When Ava’s butt landed on the seat, I knew the night was officially ruined. So much for the plans I had prepared for us. Things with Camilla and I would probably devolve like they had been doing for the past few weeks: a mindless dinner, mindless conversation, then intense fucking.

It was getting old. I wanted to have a relationship with Camilla. I didn’t want to do the mindless screwing around that we had done in the beginning. I enjoyed who she was, her beauty and her spirit and her nonchalance for life. It helped with my uptight demeanor. But as I watched my girlfriend turn her attention completely away from me like I was nothing, I wondered if she really wanted something like that with me.

Maybe I needed to cut my losses while I was still ahead.

“So, how’s work going?” Camilla asked.

“Are you sure this is okay?” Ava asked.

“Oh, it’s fine. Logan’s fine,” Camilla said.

But Ava was looking at me.

She knew. I didn’t know how she knew, but she did. And even though I wanted time with Camilla all to myself, at least Ava’s presence and conversation would add some spice to our night. At least I could have a conversation with a person instead of talking to myself while Camilla had her face in her phone the entire time.

“Of course it is. You’re always welcome,” I said.

“Okay then. Well, work’s going well. It’s been an entire week of boring meetings, but I’m getting through them,” Ava said.

“Tell me about it. I sat in three of them today alone,” I said.

“See, today was only one for me. But yesterday? All day. A forty-five minute break for lunch and that was it. Nine to five, all meetings.”

“Can they do that? Can they imprison you when you’ve done nothing wrong like that?”

Ava and I shared a laugh before Camilla interjected.

“Anyway, I have to go shopping for some new work clothes. Want to come with me Saturday?” Camilla asked Ava.

“Sure. What kinds of clothes do you need?” Ava asked.

“Well, I’ll be bartending, but I’ll also have a bit of a salary on the side. I’ll really have to work for the tips I get from the bartending I will do. Maybe something not so dark all the time. Something that really makes me stand out but still shows off my chest or something.”

“Ah, the money makers,” Ava said.

“Yep. Can’t cover those up if I want to continue making tips.”

“So what does this promotion get you?” Ava asked.

“I’m curious to know that, too,” I said.

“Oh, I’ve already told you, Logan,” Camilla said.

“No, you haven’t.”

“I haven’t?”

“No.”

“Oh. I thought we talked about it last night.”

“No. We didn’t talk last night,” I said.

“Did I talk to you about it last night?” she asked as she turned to Ava.

“No. We didn’t talk last night either,” Ava said.

I narrowed my eyes at her as Camilla drew in a quick breath.

“Well, anyway, I’m assistant manager of the bar and I help coordinate the activities during the show. So alongside making the schedule for the bar, I’ll be helping to bus the bar, supporting the bartenders, and getting the girls on and off the stage as well as putting them where they need to be and when.”

“Well, that sounds like fun,” Ava said.

“It is. I’m really excited. But I can’t wear all those skimpy crop tops and tight shorts anymore. I need something a little more professional,” Camilla said.

“But that still shows off your chest,” I said.

“Exactly!”

I chuckled and shook my head as I looked at Ava. Camilla kept rattling on about her job while the two of us shared a moment. Honestly? I felt like I was on a date with Adam. I got to sit in the position Ava had sat in a little under a week ago. I shook my head as I sat back in the booth, feeling Ava’s eyes on me a little longer than I expected.

“Hey, Camilla?” she asked.

“What’s up?”

“Why don’t you take Logan shopping with you? I’m sure he would like to help you find outfits or something,” Ava said.

“Oh, Logan doesn’t like shopping,” Camilla said.
