Mike swallowed and was about to answer when his other best friend, Tom Barnes, walked in carrying three boxes of pizza, more beer, and juice.

“Hey, I brought food and juice for kids and grown-ups.” Tom held up the items before walking over to the round table with six chairs surrounding it near the glass doors and putting them on it. “Oh, and I found these two along the way.”

“Hey,” Sam said, walking in with Jade.

“Hi.” Jade waved and walked over to Mike to kiss him on the cheek. “I know what I want for Christmas, Uncle Mike.”

“Christmas is six months away, Jay-Jay,” Mike pointed out.

“Yes, but you always say it’s never too early to put your orders in,” Jade reminded him.

“Yes, but that’s for other things like school applications.” Mike raised his eyebrows.

“Nope, you weren’t specific, so no advice take backsies.” Jade kissed him again before stopping when she noticed Nicky standing awkwardly between him and Harry.

“Hi, I’m Jade,” she introduced herself to Nicky.

“Nicky!” Sam’s voice boomed across to them, and she rushed towards their visitor to embrace her. “It’s been years since I’ve seen you.”

“Hey, Sam,” Nicky said, hugging her back. “You’re looking great.”

“So do you!” Sam stood back, holding Nicky’s hands in hers, and ran her eyes over her. “Lorry told me you were moving back to Marco Island.”

“Yes, I got back yesterday,” Nick told her. “That’s when Hannah noticed the for-sale sign, and here I am making an offer to buy the store.”

“You are?” Sam’s eyes met Mike’s, and her brows raised.

“Yes, Nicky, just arrived and gave it to me,” Mike said stupidly.Did I just say that?

“I’m starving,” Jade groaned and rushed toward the table. “What toppings did you get, Uncle Tom?”

“I know, you eat like a horse for such a tiny thing.” Tom smiled at her. “I bought you your own with chicken and barbeque sauce.”

“Did you get extra feta on it?” Jade looked at him with narrow eyes.

“Of course, Jay-Jay,” Tom told her.

“You’re the best.” Jade hugged him before scraping a chair back, taking a seat, and getting stuck into the pizza the minute Tom opened the box for her.

“Geez, Mike, are you starving the kid?” Tom stood staring at Jade as she wolfed down the pizza.

“She’s an active, growing girl,” Mike explained, happy to have his attention taken away from Nicky, who apparently made him become a moron.

“Hi, I’m Tom Barnes,” Tom said, walking toward Nicky with a hand held out. “My friends are not the best at introducing people. I sometimes think it’s because they forget my name. After all, it’s so hard to remember.”

Nicky laughed and shook his hand. “Nicky Scott.”

“Scott?” Tom frowned as they released their hands. “As in The Scott’s Hotel?”

“Yes.” Nicky nodded.

“My father is going to be renovating the hotel,” Tom told her.

“Oh, I met your father, David, yesterday,” Nicky said. “You must be the architect son he told us about.”

“Guilty.” Tom gave a slight bow.

“Do you want to stay and have some pizza with us?” Jade asked from across the room.
