“Thank you, Miss DuPont. I’ll arrange for your travel after I secure Grace’s services.” I smiled, feeling the first rays of hope in days. “Oh, and I would appreciate your discretion.”

She nodded. “Of course, Your Highness. But please be aware that if I am questioned directly by Queen Annabelle about this matter, I will be forced to tell the truth.”

“I would expect nothing less from you,” I said. “And if it comes to that, I will take full responsibility. You have my word.”

“I appreciate that, Your Highness,” she said.

After Miss DuPont left the room, Veronica turned to me. “Is this really what we’re resorting to?”

“Desperate times, Veronica,” I replied. “I just need to find Grace’s contact information.”

“Already found it and texted it to you,” Dante said.

“Good man,” I said, pulling out my phone and glancing at Grace’s website and phone number. “Okay, wish me luck.”

I wasted no time dialing the number.

“Grace’s Wedding Wonders,” answered a hesitant voice on the other end of the line.

“Good day,” I began, doing my best to sound casual despite the weight of my future happiness resting on this conversation. “Is this Grace?”

“Who is calling, please?’ she replied, her tone guarded.

“Prince Oliver,” I said.

“Yeah—and I’m Cinderella,” she scoffed before she ended the call.

I pulled away the phone from my ear and blinked, then turned to face Veronica and Dante. “She hung up on me.”

“Give it another shot, Oliver,” Veronica suggested, the corners of her mouth twitching with amusement. “Start off with something that will get her attention, like that you would like to acquire her services. Money talks, as they say.”

“Very well,” I sighed, redialing the number and mentally preparing myself for another round of hostility.

“What?!” she answered.

“Please don’t hang up on me—I require your services for my wedding,” I said.

There was silence.

“Hello? Grace? Are you there?” My voice cracked in an unusual fashion.

“Who are you now?” she asked. “Kermit the Frog?”

I hesitated. “You can’t possibly believe that. Kermit’s voice is high-pitched and raspy, and he shifts his tone to convey different emotions. My voice is more monotone.”

“I would say it’s more monotonous,” Grace said. “Now, if you’ll excuse me, the Queen of Hearts is about to chop off my head. I regret I must bid you adieu!” Just like that, she was gone.

“Unbelievable,” I fumed, pacing the room once more. “She just hung up on me again.”

This time, Veronica laughed. “You gave it a valiant effort. Let’s come up with another option.”

I huffed. “Absolutely not. If she thinks I’m giving up so easily, she’s in for a rude awakening.”

“Then at least put it on speakerphone, so we can all be entertained,” she said.

I dialed her number again and tapped the speakerphone as she answered on the first ring.

“Listen, you creeper—I don’t know who you are, but stop calling here and yanking my chain!” Grace snapped, her patience clearly wearing thin. “I don’t need this from you, I don’t need this from anyone! It’s not funny.”
