Oliver: Come to the kitchen.

Me: Your mother will kill me.

Oliver: She’s usually sleeping by now. She’s an early riser. And since when are you afraid of Mother?

Me: I’m in my pajamas.

Oliver: Even better. I bet you look cute in them.

Me: Is the Prince of Verdana flirting with me?

Oliver: It appears so. How am I doing?

Me: Not bad.

Oliver: I’ll have to work on that.

Oliver: Now, get your adorable self to the kitchen.

Me: I have no idea where it’s located.

Oliver: How could you not know?

Me: There are seventy rooms in the palace.

Oliver: Seventy-seven to be exact.

Me: Even worse.

Oliver: Please come. Head toward the dining room, but then keep going and enter the second door on your left. Follow the smell from there. And put some Chapstick on your lips. Yes, that was a cryptic flirt.

That made me smile as I slipped back out of bed. Even though I was exhausted, the promise of food and another kiss from Oliver certainly got my attention. I threw my robe over my pajamas and headed out of my room. Navigating through the royal palace, I eventually stumbled upon the colossal kitchen. Oliver was standing by the stove, diligently mixing something in a pot.

“This kitchen is humongous!” I said, doing a three-sixty and looking around.

“This is actually the smallest of the two kitchens,” he said. “The other one is three times the size and is used for large events and celebrations.”

Oliver dipped a spoon into the pot, then lifted it toward me. “Careful, it’s hot. Blow on it.”

“This looks and smells amazing,” I complimented, the delightful aroma wafting through the air. I leaned closer, then blew on it.

His charming smile widened. Then he pulled the spoon away before I could take a bite. “Still hot.” His eyes danced with amusement. “Blow a little more.”

I shook my head in amusement. “Sounds like you are the one who is overheating.” I held his wrist so he could not pull the spoon away and sampled the macaroni and cheese. “Wow. That’s good.”

Oliver nodded proudly. “Glad you like it. I had to toss the first batch in the garbage.” He chuckled. “It had a little too much salt.”

We sat down to eat and indulged in the delicious meal.

“Veronica told me you came up with the perfect plan,” Oliver said.

I nodded and wiped my mouth. “I think it’s pretty solid. I would be surprised if Queen Annabelle did not approve of it. Veronica is amazing. She knows a great deal about agriculture. It blew my mind.”

“She said the same about you,” Oliver responded. “That your strategic planning and analysis skills were fantastic. You make a good team.”

“We make a good team,” I said.

Oliver arched an eyebrow. “Miss Fullerton, are you flirting with me?”
