“And how was your day?” she asks as she grabs two wine glasses from the bar cart.

I groan and take a large bite of the pizza. “I keep wondering why the hell I agreed to do the show when I have to put up with Tyler. Today was one of the days he decided to talk to me. Only long enough to call me a frigid bitch, though.”

“What an asshole.” Paige hands me a glass of wine before bringing her own over to the couch. The cushions sink down as she sits beside me. “You really don’t have to put up with that if you don’t want to. You know that, right? We could live together forever.”

I laugh and sip my wine. “There’s no way that we could live together forever, Paige. One of these days, you’re going to findsomeone you want to settle down with. They aren’t going to want to live with me.”

“You could settle down with someone and ditch me first.” Paige grins at me over the rim of her glass. “This stage in life is just temporary, Cassie. Great things are still waiting for you. I know that the band is only for one show, but there’s nothing stopping you from going out on your own if you want to.”

“I don’t want to.” I down the rest of the glass of wine in one go. “In an ideal word, I never would have been kicked out of the band. I would have been able to stay with them forever. Since that future got ruined, I’m happy working with the kids.”

“You’re happy going to that studio every other day too.”

I shrug and finish the slice of pizza. “Not if it means getting shit on by Tyler every day. That is getting old really fast. At this rate, I don’t know if we’re even going to make it to the hometown show.”

“What do you mean?”

“Tony told us that we need to work on our chemistry, and Tyler responded by storming out of practice.” I get up and refill my glass. “I don’t know how to build chemistry with someone who made it his mission in life to destroy what we used to have.”

“If he doesn’t want to play nice with you, why don’t you take matters into your own hands?” Paige grins and reaches for the pizza box on the coffee table. She grabs a slice and takes a massive bite. “He’s never going to go along with it unless you make him.”

I curl back up into the corner of the couch with my wine. “Maybe you’re right about that.”

“Bring back the Cassie from eight years ago. That Cassie didn’t take shit from anyone. At least that’s what you’ve told me.”

I scoff and shrug. “The Cassie from eight years ago was a ballbuster. She would have never put up with that shit.”

Paige clinks her glass against mine. “Then I guess it’s time for the old Cassie to make an appearance.”

With a smile, I sip on my wine. Tyler is going to regret picking a fight with me.

CHAPTER 10

TYLER

If I didn’t think the door was going to fall off the hinges with the incessant pounding, I would have stayed in bed.

With a groan I swing my legs out of the comfort of the warm sheets. My feet hit the cold hardwood floors and I stand, stretching before stumbling my way to the door. The banging stops for a few seconds as I stand on the other side.

When I open the door, Cassie is standing there with her hands on her hips. Her nose wrinkles as she looks at me.

I glance down at the ratty T-shirt and shorts I’m wearing. There are holes in the fabric and more grease stains than I can count from working on my car. The same car that I haven’t touched in nearly two weeks.

The classic car was a gift I bought myself for making it through the first rehearsal with Cassie. I spent a day or two working on it before I went back to drowning my problems in alcohol. It worked better than tinkering with an engine.

My head is pounding as I look down at her. I rub my eyes, hoping that the petite women in jeans and a sheer bodysuit is a figmentof my imagination. The black cups of her bra are visible through the sparkling sheer material.

I groan and tuck my hands in my pockets, trying to disguise the obvious way my cock swells at the sight of her. Cassie may drive me insane, but there’s no denying that she’s attractive.

Always has been.

“What do you want?” I ask, crossing my arms as I glare down at her.

Cassie rolls her eyes and pushes her way past me and into my home. The corner of my mouth twitches, despite the annoyance flowing through me. She has no right to march into my apartment like it’s her own. Hell, she has no business being anywhere near me outside of rehearsal.

So why is she here?

“You need to go get ready. We’re going out tonight.”
