“Yes, My Princess,” he purred, running his tongue over my lips.

Damn sexy man.

We showered and mostly behaved besides several touches and quick kisses. Just as we finished up and I went to dress for the day, I glanced at him over my shoulder and saw him checking out my ass. “Shift back. Your gift is for your leopard.”

“It’s best to just listen when she has that evil smile,” Mozell told him. “Her men are always very happy later that they did.”

Talk about doing a sister a solid. Nice.

It worked though because he did it.

Most everyone who was allowed to have breakfast at the castle was there, so I decided to make something very clear before we potentially had a problem.

I glanced over at Vitor. “It’s ready?”

“Yes, Princess.”

I nodded and then squatted down next to James, kissing his head. “I spoke with several older nobles who have princesses who feed from shifters or have one in their beds as well. They said the best way to make your blood stronger for me was to have you stop feeding anyone else, and I want that anyways since I’m a jealous woman.

“Also that you need more food in your leopard form. The bond between you grows, and your body is stronger then—your blood as well. So I had three deer transported here. They’re somewhere in the fences for you.” I kissed his head again. “Happy hunting, lover.”

He licked my face and then headed for the foyer, the guards there able to open the door for him.

I stood up and glanced around the room. “I suggest going forward, no one fuck with him. Not only does this coven need him and his vast military knowledge to keep us safe, he is mine. So know you risk my wrath if you upset him and I’m not a forgiving woman. Spread the word today so there are no mistakes or people pretending they don’t know who he is to me.”

I didn’t wait for a response, going right for Kristof and having our private breakfast… Until Trisha came out and hugged me, thanking me for protecting James even after he’d been such an idiot.

“Josephine is demanding to speak with you and says you’ll regret it if you don’t,” Joi informed me as she joined us.

I snorted. “I regret having gone to see them the first time. Fuck her. Aether made it clear to me last night in my dreams that She hopes I end them both and free myself from the monsters just as I do corrupted.”

“Our Goddess is always wise,” she said, dipping her head to me.

The day was normal and everyone worked hard, but I had a difficult time keeping focused knowing that I was going to have dinner at Kristof’s old house that he built himself. He had refreshed the inside and changed out the bed even, so I was excited to have a special night with him.

Instead, I arrived back to find out just how crazy the woman who gave birth to me was.

“She killed herself?” I rasped, trying to wrap my mind around what Sundar was telling me. “How? I don’t understand how when you guys heal from like everything!”

“She’s not old like us, Princess,” he said gently. “And she wasn’t a noble. She was a normal vampire who… We train—you train. You do things to make your body strong and use your power. She did none of that.”

“How?” I mumbled as my knees went weak, Cerdic catching me in time before I went down.

“She stabbed herself in the neck. Lunch was brought to her, and the moment the kitchen staff left and was back upstairs, she—”

“That makes no sense,” I snapped. “Someone did—”

Cerdic lifted me up and brought me to my tower so no one overheard this. We took the elevator up to my lounge and he sat me down, kneeling in front of me. “I saw the video. Trisha made sure there were cameras in there. That woman was unwell. She said—it was evil and said basically that she would now be a martyr and Aether would be happy to have her home.”

I snorted. “Aether made it clear She wants them both gone except She’s worried how Erebus might use them like He did Safie and Bahati. I’m waiting for Kaitlin next.”

He nodded and rubbed my knees. “None of this is your fault, but you need to know that no one was lax. People did smell blood but—”

I winced, surmising what happened. “People thought it was blood from the deer that James killed by the castle.”

“Yes, and most didn’t take lunch here because of all of the work in New Orleans and word got around you want to give the kitchen lunches off.”
