Only to see him land directly onto Ere’s back.

With Ben riding him, Ere rejoined the aerial training with more focus and vigor, actually flying in formation this time.

Heba looked at Sin, who remained beside her on the grassy hill.

You’re not going to ride Zai too?she asked.

I like my paws on the ground, dragon Mate,Sin communicated back through his mind.

With that, the liger bounded down the jagged side of the cliff, his giant paws and feline agility keeping him balanced despite the sharp drop. It looked like he barely touched ground he was so graceful and swift.

Sin sprinted across the plains, tufted tail in the air like a flag. The gray dragon tracked him closely, flying overhead, his gigantic shadow engulfing the liger below.

Heba could watch her friends like this all day, every day.

Despite the foreign terrain and the cold weather that Heba wasn’t yet used to, she felt at home here in these mountains. The immortals and humans who dwelled here welcomed her like family, and she embraced them back.

She’d never felt as free as she did now. There were no prying eyes, no rules to abide by. She had no responsibilities besides showing Shai how much she loved him every moment of every day. Duties she carried out with relish.

Well, in the weeks since she’d awoken, she did learn how to do a few chores.

The men helped Shai and her build a cozy cabin right in the flower fields where she first regained consciousness. The women helped her pick out things to decorate her new home. She quite enjoyed “shopping” with a card that seemed to have unlimited gold in it.

But in the markets here, no one haggled, which was a shame. The prices were clearly written. Heba did like to buy things “on sale” though. It was like a treasure hunt.

Her other chores involved cleaning, washing, and cooking. The women were clear with her that men should do their fair share of chores too. Heba only nodded, rather intimidated by all these powerful, non-nonsense females, some of whom were warriors like Inanna and Eir.

But secretly, Heba loved cleaning, washing and cooking. This was what the wives of common men did back in her homeland. They ran the household and took care of the children while the men labored from dawn to dusk in the fields. They owned property too and had almost as many rights as the men did.

In her secret tomb’s walls and on the sides of her sarcophagus, she had the artisans depict these domestic scenes. It was how she dreamed of a life with Shai if she were blessed with the opportunity. The privilege.

The gods had been extremely kind to her to grant her this wish.

Here, in this modern world, she and Shai divided their time similarly as they would have back in time.

He spent at least half the day training with the animal spirits, strategizing and fortifying their mountain base. Tal taught them how to grow their own fruits and vegetables, and Shai paid close attention. He tended to their garden and helped her keep the house clean. They learned to cook together. Heba rather had a knack for it, and Shai was getting very good at grilling.

While Shai was away, Heba spent her time learning about this modern culture, learning English too. She sat in the back of class at the local school and even got some tutoring twice a week from a friend of the Immortals, and especially of Maddie, named Yasmin Jones.

Life was simple here. And so verygood.

The years she spent without Shai had been almost too difficult to endure. She’d been so lonely and desperate for him. But somehow, she fulfilled her duty by her son, who became a mighty king. She fulfilled her duty by her kingdom, which enjoyed an unparalleled prosperity during her reign.

But all she wanted for herself was to be Shai’s woman. To kiss him awake in the morning and love him throughout the day and night.

Now, all of her dreams had finally come true. She could scarcely believe it. She often pinched herself to make sure she wasn’t still dreaming.

But then, her dreams had never been this wonderful, thisreal.

She grinned up at the approach of her gorgeous dragon just as his shadow blanketed her.

He landed gracefully close by and arched his long neck toward her, golden eyes flashing with a sunny smile.

You are the most beautiful thing I have ever seen, my love, she couldn’t help but to convey through their mind link, a private channel of communication just for them.

He dipped his chin down and turned slightly sideways as if abashed by her brazen appreciation. After all these weeks of her gushing over him every chance she got, he was still so shy about it.

It was an intriguing dichotomy—how he was so self-assured in his own skin, in his ability to please and protect her as a man, and yet he could still be surprised when she complimented him. Pride without arrogance. Confidence without ego. She absolutely adored this about him.
