“Such as?” Ere pressed.

“You are right to point out that it is strange that Hatshepsut would be entombed alongside her nursemaid,” Ben said, “however fond of Sitre In she might have been.”

“There were many others close to her, like Senenmut, who was thought by early historians to be her lover, though there was no evidence but a bit of wall smut. His tomb was found, alone, elsewhere.”

“She loved her father, Thutmose I, very much,” Ben continued. “Even had his tomb moved supposedly to be buried alongside hers. The location is designated as KV20 in the Valley of the Kings. It contained two yellow quartzite sarcophagi, one inscribed for him and the other for his daughter, as well as a canopic chest for her.”

“But his mummy wasn’t there, nor in a different location that also contained a tomb of his with his inscriptions. Instead, his remains were found in the cache with others at Deir el Bahri, Hatshepsut’s temple.”

Ere rubbed his temple.

“That’s a whole lot of baiting and switching,” he muttered.

Ben nodded in agreement. The organized chaos of tombs and mummies had likely been done on purpose to deter tomb raiders.

“In addition, the mummy that’s been identified as Hatshepsut has been theorized to be another royal entirely, and the tooth in the box was proven in 2011 to be from the lower jaw, while the missing tooth of the mummy was an upper molar. It’s all circumstantial evidence, which, after three thousand five hundred years, is all we have to go by. But in my mind, it’s just not convincing.”

“You think Hatshepsut’s body is still missing,” Ere surmised.

“I think she’s still out there somewhere, waiting to be found,” Ben confirmed.

“So, tell me again why we’re stalled here at this bend?” Ere griped, then brightened.

“See that? I rhymed! Poeticism just poureth forth from my lips.”

Ben could only shake his head at his mercurial sire while Sorin gave the top of Ere’s head a fond pat.

Ere leaned into his Mate’s touch like a purring, horny tomcat seeking a scratch and maybe more, and insinuated himself within the circle of Sorin’s arms.

“We’ve stopped because I know where that way leads, but I think we’re meant to go in a different direction,” Ben explained.

Ere made a show of looking around.

“Um… there is just this passage that leads to the Valley of the Kings and the way back to the Memorial Temple. Everything else is solid rock.”

“Like the solid rock that hid the tunnel?” Ben reminded him.

Ere disengaged from Sorin’s arms and stood before the other side of the bend. He harnessed his dragon strength and pushed against the smooth white stone.

“See, there’s nothing—"

Amazingly, it gave.

An entire slab that was two-feet thick began to rotate away, revealing a narrow entrance to another tunnel.

“Well, fuck me thrice on Sundays,” Ere breathed, consternated.

“Already do,” Sorin rumbled.

The lovebirds shared a lascivious look while Ben gagged.

Really, much as he liked Sorin, there was just so much romance he could take when he was an innocent bystander who was Ere’sson.

“I’ll go first,” he said, charging ahead through the secret entrance, while Ere and Sorin followed closely behind.

Where would these mysteries lead, Ben wondered?

And what would he find when he got there?
