From the moment Byakko Fell, Seven jealously guarded their secret. There were repercussions for such transgressions, after all. Their union was disturbing the Universal Balance.

Yet, she couldn’t stop herself. She was addicted to him, and he depended on her. Deeper and deeper they became engrossed in each other.

Until one day, Byakko’s emotions reached the point of no return. And Seven, to her own consternation and fear, carried the irrevocable proof of their union within her godly womb.

“This can’t be!” she cried frantically in the secluded cave she shared with her Beast.

“How am I…pregnant!”

She knew perfectlyhow.

Since the day Byakko turned man, they’d rutted multiple times every day and night. And it wasn’t that gods couldn’t produce offspring the way other creatures did. But across the tens of thousands of years of Seven’s existence, neither she nor Six had ever been cursed with such a trial.

“Perhaps I can still get rid of it,” she muttered, pacing furiously in her agitation.

“Cut it out of my body before it’s fully formed.”

She clutched her long hair in distress.

“Gods! What if Papa Jade finds out? What if the other gods knew…they’d come for me in my moments of weakness. They’d use this-this-thingagainst me!”

Her panic and fear escalated until she held a dagger to her belly, intent upon destroying the evidence of her transgression.

To her utter shock, for the first time in his existence, Byakko went against her wishes. Because she didn’t expect it, he was able to wrestle the weapon away from her, tossing the dagger down the ravine from the edge of their plateau.

Reflexively, with a surge of fury, she blasted him full in the chest with a wave of pure energy from her outstretched hands, sending him flying and hitting the outer wall of the cave in a resounding, bone-breaking crash.

“You think I need a weapon to end this?” she raged, eyes blazing, as she glared down at his crumpled body.

To demonstrate her point, she turned a glowing palm toward her stomach while keeping one focused on Byakko, in case he tried to stop her again.

“Please…” he rasped, pulling himself to hands and knees, trying to stand but failing.

“I beg you, goddess…if you have any care for me…please…”

“Care!” she cried.

“Whatever care I might have felt is eviscerated in the face of this blatant insubordination! How dare you try to gainsay me! How dare you turn on me! I am agod! You…You are a toy. You are nothing!”

The bleakness and heartbreak in Byakko’s eyes at her words gave her a moment of pause.

For the first time in Seven’s existence, her own heart shuddered and cracked, flooding her chest with a scalding acid, making her body burn with agony. Making her eyes water from the pain.

What was happening to her?! Was shedying?

But there were no physical wounds. She wasn’t bleeding. And yet, everything was wrong on the inside.

Everything waswrong!

“Please…” Byakko whispered, now propping his broken body against the cavern wall, still staring at her with those hypnotic blue eyes, filled with…

With something Seven couldn’t identify. But it made her chest feel caved in on itself. It made her eyes water even more, until her vision blurred and swam, and she blinked rapidly to clear it.

“The babe within you…it is innocent,” he rasped.

“Give it to me. I will take care it. Hide it. No one will know. Please…”

In that moment, in the moment of her acquiescence to Byakko’s pleas, she hated him.
