“OK. Heads is to the right.” She flips the coi., “It’s tails.” We head down the left hallway, looking for a door that might lead out into the main part of the station. Winding through the halls, we stop at a few doors only to find them locked or we can hear voices. Nope don’t want to get caught. We can understand some of the voices thanks to the translators that the medics on the ship gave us. That will make it easier to navigate once we find a way out.
We keep slinking down this hallway and that, until we find a door that opens for us. Looking around, we see a lobby area and doors in front of us. There is a large desk area to the right with what looks to be an alien security guard.
Kelsey, where are you? Tet asks.
Scram! You buzzkill. I don’t want to talk to either of you! I block both of them right then and there. They don’t need to ruin our adventure.
Almost to the outside, we just need to cross the lobby without the guard stopping us.
“OK, we need to look like we are supposed to be here,” Yaretzi softly says. “Just keep walking with purpose. We will worry about getting back in when we are done.” We begin to stride through the lobby. Unfortunately, the tentacle guy notices us.
“Hey, I don’t think you three should be in here!” He is yelling at us.
“Keep going, I will stall him,” Yaretzi tells us in a whisper then loudly proclaims to the guard, “You are right!” Yaretzi does her best sashay to the guard as we hustle to the front door. This allows Millie and I to leave the lobby.
And then we are free! Well, kind of. In front of us is a large city. With buildings that reach up to an artificial sky. There are aliens all around and some don’t look to savory, but I hold Millie’s hand and stride forward like I have no reason to be afraid of any of these guys. I have walked through downtown at midnight without being molested, so I don’t see this as a problem…I think.
My heart, we will meet you at the Galactic Gallery. I think you will enjoy shopping there. Tan reaches out and sends me the directions. Tell them you are our mate and to put everything you want on our tab.
What? Really? Well, that is a surprise.
Yes, my heart. My mother shops there anytime she visits the station with our fathers. Well, if it is good enough for my MIL. Oh, wow, I have a mother-in-law. What will she think of me?
She will love you as much as we do, my heart, Tet chimes in.
“Well, Millie, we have a destination!” I tell her and march through the streets of this intergalactic metropolis like a local.
Chapter Nineteen

“So, we stay here temporarily or are they going to find us some place where we can rest?” Maryellen asks her beast of a mate. He just indicates to me. “Well?”
“We are working on secure housing,” I say quickly. “Of course, you and your mate have a dwelling on the station due to Commander Max’s rank and grade. However, the other women need to be kept safe. It is unfortunate that my mate chose this time to lead her fellow humans astray.”
“Don’t be too harsh on Kelsey,” She tells me softly. “You know she really does have feelings for you and your brother. She told me so herself.” I am surprised by this, as is my brother. “However, she is a free spirit, so you need to be a little less controlling with her.”
“But we must keep her safe and teach her the duties of a mate to a command team,” I tell her. She just nods sagely.
“Yes, you do need to keep her safe, but that doesn’t mean to stifle her… natural exuberance.” She smiles kindly. “Give her a little freedom, talk to her, and find out about who she is as a person and you might be surprised at how she will enhance your lives. If she truly is your true and fated mate then you may want to remember that she is a human and we need to see love, not just biological markings and orders.”
My heart, we will meet you at the Galactic Gallery. I think you will enjoy shopping there, I tell her. Tell them you are our mate and to put everything you want on our tab.
What? Really? Kelsey is surprised by my generosity.

“What just happened?” I ask out loud to Maryellen.
“Yaretzi told the guard that tried to delay them that they were going shopping.” He then smirks. “On ‘Kelsey’s mates dime’. Kelsey and Millie escaped. Tet is not happy that I gave our mate directions to a trusted shop.” A gasp escaped from her mouth. “I told her to have fun shopping and we will be there to pick her up when we are done.”
“Good for you!” Her smile is broad. “She will appreciate that you trust her enough to give her that little bit of freedom.”
His lips stretch in a beautiful smile. “She feels …happy.”
“I bet she is,” Maryellen confirms.
That is when my brother has Commander Max take the remaining females to their quarters.
