“The ‘Boss’ must be well read or fairly good at intelligence collection,” Fenn states. “He probably knows that we would not be too far behind these thugs and ordered the hit.”

“Let’s head home; the Council Guards will be here to clean up this place.” Tet instructs. I start to get up off the cot when I am swung up into Tet’s arms and he strides to the door.

“I can walk, you know!” I am a little miffed that he thinks I am incapacitated.

I know you can, my heart. But I need to hold you for my sanity. Ah, that is so sweet. The sooner I claim you the better it will be for me. I thump his chest at that.

“You think after this trauma I am ready to be claimed?” I say with indignation.

“My dear, do not tease the boys,” Teyana lightly scolds me. “Anyone can see they are desperate for you. Besides, if they claim you, you will not have to worry about situations like this.”

“Teyana, you and I know that being claimed for safety is not a great relationship starter,” I scold back.

“Yes, dear, but it will be very fun to be claimed by two handsome Alkadians like my sons. So much fun.” She smirks rubbing her hands up her mates arms, as my mouth opens in shock at that. “Close your mouth dear, you do not want to catch dlyxs.” I snap my mouth shut then and allow my mates to take me home.

Chapter Thirty

Tan

I march right into our quarters with our mate in our arms. I am done playing her games. She will let us claim her or else…I do not know what.

I cannot stand the thought of you coming to harm, my heart. I look down into her face with all the love I have for this beautiful human. You must let us complete the claiming. You are too precious!

“Tan, listen to me.” She looks at me and I feel the pain in her lovely eyes. “I want you… both of you … to claim me, but now, it isn’t the right time. I want it to be special because you claiming me should be special, not just a trauma response.” Her hands palm my face.

Our mate is wise, brother. Tet walks in the room. I, too, am fearful from almost losing our mate, but she is right we must wait to claim her. She is too special for the claiming to be done because we are scared.

“Thank you!” our mate says. “Marriage…mating is a lifelong commitment and should be done with all proper respect.” Wow, I can’t believe that came out of my mouth, Kelsey thinks. A smile forms on my lips.

It did, my heart, I let her know.

“Shit, I forgot to block you two.” She sighs. “ I need to just relax tonight, OK?”

She wraps her arms around me in a hug that asks only for comfort. I respond in kind and pull her in my arms more firmly, kissing the top of her head. I guide her to the big lounger in the room that wraps around. Tet joins us as we just sit holding each other. His arms stretch around her from the opposite side, allowing us to just sit there and comfort her. Tet and I take turns over the afternoon smoothing our hands through her golden strands. Her head moves from one shoulder to the other, her breathing steady, but not so relaxed that she sleeps. We just sit there, calmly enjoying the feel of our mate between us. She is safe and in our arms. At this moment, we can’t ask for much more.

Unfortunately, our time of peace is shattered by the shrill tone of Tet’s com. He looks at it and responds, “We are on our way….Yes, we will bring our mate. We are not willing to leave her alone or with guards right now. See you in 30,” He touches the com and turns to us.

“They want to debrief us on the abduction. The higher ups are concerned that these criminals are staging riots in the Shopping District in order to capture their targets.”

“I was enjoying our quiet time,” Kelsey said.

I was too, my heart, I tell her. Surprisingly, I miss just holding her peacefully. Just sitting there with our mate sandwiched between Tet and I. Since meeting Kelsey, I have never felt this calm.

We better head out. Tet reminds us. I reluctantly release my mate and stand next to Tet with my hand out to her. I am relieved when she takes it and I have that connection that I need to remain calm around this beautiful creature that is our mate.

We sit at the far end of the Council boardroom, as the Senior Council goes over Kelsey and Mother’s testimony.

“We still do not know who the new head of the An Ratha family is.” Senior Council Ar’Arith addresses everyone. “However, we know they are possibly mated to a Misagian Captain. One who is connected to the abductions of humans.”

“That is what the male said, sir,” My mate is doing well in front of the five council members.

“A criminal!” Councilor Tri’Acrera yells. “You trust the word of a criminal. The An Ratha family are just a group of respectable females. They could not help that their males were causing so many problems that we had to call in the Marines of the Galactic forces. And to even consider females, it is unthinkable.”

“Ma’am, respectfully. That criminal was murdered while telling me this information,” Kelsey speaks up. “And you know that females are just as competent as males. You, yourself, are a female in a male dominated field. Are you saying you can’t lead?”

Her thin lipped mouth gaped at me. I blinked my eyes at her. “By the way, on Earth, some of our greatest criminals were females. They tended to terrorize their regions for years and no one suspected that a lady would be that ruthless. What better way to hide a criminal enterprise and if one of them has allied with essentially a pirate enterprise, you should realize that this could make your job harder.”

“How so?” The counselor is intrigued.
