Abby paled and crossed her arms. She wouldn’t back down now. “Fine. I’m waiting.”

Logan squared his shoulders and cleared his throat. “Abby Carpenter.” His voice softened measurably. “I want to express my sincere apology for my behavior these past weeks.”

“Months,” she inserted with a low breath.

“All right, months,” Logan amended. “Although you seem to be rushing the moment, I don’t suppose it would do any harm to give you this.” He pulled a diamond ring from his pocket.

Abby nearly fell over. Her mouth dropped open and she was speechless as he lifted her hand and slipped the solitaire diamond on her ring finger. “I was on my way to your place,” he explained as he pulled her into his embrace. “I’ve loved you for a long time. You know that. I hadn’t worked out a plan to steal your heart away from Tate. But you can be assured I wasn’t going to let you go without a struggle.”

“But I love—”

His lips interrupted her declaration of love. Abby released a small cry of wonder and wound her arms around his neck, giving herself to the kiss as his mouth closed over hers.

Gradually Logan raised his head, and his eyes were filled with the same wonder she was experiencing. “I talked to Tate again after you left the park,” Logan said in a husky murmur. “I was a complete fool.”

“No more than usual.” Her small laugh was breathless.

“I’ll need at least thirty years to make it up to you.”

“Change that to forty and you’ve got yourself a deal.”

His eyes smiled deeply into hers. “Where would you like to honeymoon?”

Abby’s eyes sparkled. “Des Moines—where else?”
