Oh God. Oh God. Oh God.

He’d heard me. Exactly what had he heard? I vividly recalled making a noise at one point, but had I cried out more than I thought?

Could a hole open up in the floor and swallow me?

“I’m sorry,” I said.

Silence stretched between us as he stared straight ahead and I looked down at the bar. I breathed a sigh of relief when the bartender arrived with my drink, a fancy concoction with a peppermint-sugar rim and candy canes sticking out of it. But he left as soon as he’d set the drink in front of me, heading off to take care of an older guy who’d settled onto the farthest barstool.

I lifted the glass to my lips and sipped delicately, watching myself in the mirrored wall behind the liquor bottles. Next to me, Asher took a generous swig of his drink, then set down his almost-empty glass.

“No, you had the right idea,” he said. “Relieve some tension. That’s exactly what I should’ve done. I could use a good…cleaning.”

I should be offended. Maybe another employee would have been. But one of the reasons I wasn’t offended was that Asher wouldn’t do this with any other employee.

This sizzle between us was rare. I might be a virgin, but I knew enough about physical attraction to know that much.

“After that drive…you know,” I blurted.

That was all I said. I smiled to myself, waiting until the martini glass was blocking my mouth to do so. A couple of sips of alcohol apparently gave me the courage to say things like that to my boss.

Had I actually just implied he was the reason I touched myself in the shower?

“Well, if you ever need help with that…” Asher said.

I nearly choked on the sip of martini I’d just taken. Was I supposed to respond to that? I racked my brain for words that would strike the right tone, but I was coming up blank.

“About dinner,” Asher said. “I think I should brief you on some things before we meet with my buddy.”

And that was exactly what he did. He talked business. I did my best to focus, but all I could think about was his offer. If I invited him into the shower with me, he’d be game, sounded like.

How could I refuse that offer?

ASHER

Ihad to get this hard-on under control before we stood again. It didn’t help that Sammie and I were crammed into one side of the booth. My buddy Thad sat on the other side, seemingly unaware of the sparks flying back and forth between us. Maybe it was because he was too busy dispensing business advice.

“This buyer is hot,” Thad said. “All you have to do is tell him everything about your business and he’ll be putty in your hands.”

Thad’s words pull me out of my thoughts. The words “hot” and “putty in your hands” had led my mind astray. It didn’t help that I kept replaying the sounds I’d heard through the wall—a moan and later a whimper. I’d been sure I’d heard her panting in between, but there was no way that traveled through the wall between her shower and the desk that jutted up against the wall on the other side of it.

I should’ve stopped working and rubbed one out then, but instead, I decided some hard liquor was exactly what I needed. And that was how I ended up knocking on her door and inviting her downstairs.

“I’m sure,” I said with a nod, but I heard the uncertainty in my own tone. “I’ve bounced from company to company in leadership roles. This was the first time I started something on my own. I built it from the ground up.”

“It’s your baby,” Thad said. “I get it. Running a business can be a lot of work.”

It wasn’t the work that bothered me. It was my life. I was reaching the end of another year with nothing to show for it but a stack of money and a big, empty condo. It was no longer enough to have a woman in my bed for a night. I didn’t even want a woman in my life for a month or two. I wanted the real deal. I wanted the lifelong partnership that some of my college buddies had found.

Thad raised his hand as the server walked by. “Can I get the check? I need to run.” Then he turned back to me. “Think about it before your meeting. Make sure this is what you want. Because if you say the word, guaranteed these guys will own your company by the time you finish ringing in the new year.”

Thad left me with that thought, rushing off to another meeting. I slid out of the booth and into his place, grabbing two menus from the server and staring down at mine.

Words swam in front of my eyes. I couldn’t comprehend anything right now. All I could think about was the woman seated across from me. The sounds she made in the shower. Had she thought of me as she slid her fingers into her slick, warm pussy? Had she pictured that they were my fingers? Or had she imagined riding me, my cock plunging deep inside her as we both gasped and moaned?

“Why are you thinking about selling?”
