“Rush, call Dominguez. Warez—”

“Already on it.”

Warez threw open the door, running from the room as I forced my fingers through my hair. This wasn’t happening. It couldn’t be happening. I’d spent my life perfecting the security to my place. Even if they did manage to take out the system, they couldn’t get in. There was no way.

“Come on, come on.”

“Voicemail. Dominguez isn’t answering.”

Time slowed as I felt my heart drop to my stomach. I didn’t even bother waiting for the connection into my building. I was standing. Sprinting. Having Rian taken was a knife in the heart. The thought of Kody being taken by them again as well…they had my heart. I didn’t exist without her. I hadn’t before she’d come into my life, and I didn’t want to if she was gone from it.

“Jase, Rush, wait!” Agent Sullivan’s voice echoed in the hall not far behind us. Had it not been for the elevator, I wouldn’t have stopped at all.

“Where’s the stairs? Where’s the fucking stairs?”

“Jase, wait.”

“I’m going home, Agent.”

“I know. I’m going too…or…” He stopped as I pressed the button for the elevator. Still, I continued to scan for a sign to stairs. “Wait. What’s this? Isn’t that the building you mentioned living in, earlier?

“What?”

I spun, looking to the lobby’s TV he was pointing to.

Red and blue flashing lights surrounded the outside of my place. “A fire?” My lips pressed together angrily as I punched in the button even faster.

“Jase.” Rush’s eyes were panicked as his head shook. “What do you think’s happening?”

My throat was getting tighter as rage and fear battled. “They’re trying to force Kody and Tiffany out. They can’t get in…Jesus. Come on!”

My hand slammed against the outside of the elevator.

“Let me drive you. I can get you there faster.”

“I doubt that, Agent Sullivan. Did you see what I’m driving? Besides, I’m going alone.”

“You need me.”

“I don’t.”

I nearly ran over two men in suits who were trying to exit. As Rush went to follow me in, my hand shot out.

“Stay. Ride with Warez to get Rian. Rian needs you. I’ll take care of Kody and Tiffany.”

“You sure? Rian would kill me if I let anything happen to her.”

“I got this. You belong there with your brother.”

“Okay. Get them, Jase, and let me know something. You and I.” The intensity built as he held my stare while I nodded. “Charge your phone and call me the moment you know something.”

“Same with you. I want an update on your brother asap.”

The doors were already closing. I shifted my feet, pacing in a circle as we rode down.

“Revenge isn’t the best thing to plan in front of an FBI agent.”

“No one said anything about revenge.”
