“We’re going to get married. I told you that.” Only then did his stare return to the Main Master. “Will you allow us to go to the chapel before you take me? She wants this as much as me.Ask her.”

Blue eyes shot to me, so cold and full of power, I nearly choked on the blood I could taste. I feared Edward, but not like this. There was evil, and then there was empty. Evil had boundaries; nothingness did not. The Main Master was nothing more than a beautiful void and as cold as the ice that no doubt ran through his veins. I’d met him once, but I’d never had his attention on me like this. It made me want to cower. To run.

“Speak, slave. You wanted me here. You did this. Do you wish to marry your Master?”

“I…” I stopped, looking at Edward, falling headfirst into a role I’d never escape so long as I lived. It wouldn’t be for long unless I surrendered. I was safe for 9 months…and I’d use that to build walls so high inside Edward, he would never be able to get over them to hurt me again. I’d make him believe what I wanted. To feel what he needed. Or I’d die trying. “I do. I. I think I love him. I don’t want to leave, but for the baby’s sake, I have no choice. Edward knows this, and he’s in agreement. Our baby’s safety comes first.”

I shrugged out of the guards’ hold, walking hesitantly to where the other guards had my Master on his knees. I lowered, mirroring him like on the bed. His hands cupped my face and his lips hungrily met mine.

“God, you’re so beautiful. Don’t worry, I’ll fix the photos of our ceremony for Mother. She’ll never know. But me, I don’t think I’ve ever seen you so stunning. The real one goes here, with us.In our home.I’ll come see you all the time when they let me out.” Again, he kissed me, making me wince from the fire beginning to ignite on my face. “You’ll let us marry real quick, Elec? While she’s like this? It won’t be the same if she’s already healed. I’ve done a lot for the Gardens. I will take my punishment, but I ask this of you. Whatever it takes.”

Something passed silently between them. What it was, I didn’t have a clue. Money? A favor? More? Definitely.

“You have two hours to do what you need, and you’ll both be guarded at all times.” He turned to a blonde guard who seemed to be in control. “When they’re finished, have her taken to a suite above. I want her set up with Dr. Owens for the remainder of her pregnancy.” The Main Master’s lids squinted for the smallest moment as he took in Edward. “Once your time is up in Hell Row, you can have supervised visitation. You’re sure you want the child?”

“I do.” Edward shifted on his knees. “Nothing will change my mind. The contract.” He blinked through a pause. “I can keep the child as my own. I saw that on there.”

“It’s there, but the terms aren’t so cut and dry as that. She’s a slave,Master. She’s missing on the outside world. There’s a lot into making this play out, none of which I’m going to go over right now. Talk to me when the child is born, and we’ll go from there. If there is a child.” The Main Master looked at me but pointed at him. “If she miscarries because of your stupidity—”

“She won’t.”

“If she does, you’ll be pushing four weeks, maybe eight. I’ll make an example of you, Mr. Voss. You better pray I’m not having a bad day or else your life may very well be on the line. You may have done a lot for the Gardens, but never think you’re in my favor for it. When it comes to life in these walls, there’s always someone ready to take your place. I’ll find your replacement so fast; it’ll make your head spin. You push that shit with me again, I’ll prove it to you.”

The Main Master took one last look at me, spinning for the door. Edward seemed to hear none of it as he kept his eyes on my beaten face. Calculations bombarded me. Manipulations tried to find their place amongst Elec’s warning. The most important thing was now I had time. Edward was only just beginning to attach to me, but family brought tighter bonds between couples, and the Gardens now provided me a new tool to play with. I may have been a slave, but I’d find my way as one. I’d bend my Master to my will, and when I did, I’d be safe. Here, amid the monsters…I’d be free.

The End
