“No.”

“Did you ask him to stay?”

“Kinda?”

“Kinda?” Taylor and Christy repeated.

“You don’t get it, he does so much for everyone else and never thinks about what he wants. He takes on so much and feels so much obligation to everything and everyone that I didn’t want to be yet another thing he felt responsible for. He’s so focused on making everyone else happy that he forgets to make himselfhappy. He needed to choose himself and I can’t make him do that.” Rebelle hiccupped again.

Christy eyed her. “Ah, I see.”

“She’s in love with him,” Taylor nodded.

Rebelle scoffed. “I’m not.”

“You so are,” Justine teased, rocking Harley who had stirred.

“You just want him to be happy!” Christy cooed. “That means you love him.”

“It’s cool, he loves you too,” Taylor shrugged casually.

“What!” Rebelle spluttered. “How do you know that?” A weird sensation prodded at her gut.

“It’s obvious. Also, Beau told me.”

“Well how did Beau know?”

“I’m assuming guy chat?”

Did he? He had done so much for her, never faltering at anything she said or did to rebuff him. She didn’t know what she’d done to deserve his attention, loyalty and unwavering kindness. Maybe his proposal had been real, not savior-complex based?

“If he did, why didn’t he tell me that when he proposed?”

“He proposed!” they all shrieked.

“He didn’t discuss any feelings. I thought he was just doing it to make himself feel better, like he was looking after me and I don’t need that so I said no.”

The women looked at each other. “I don’t think that’s why he did it,” Taylor said.

“I think maybe he wasn’t sure how you felt?” Justine spoke softly.

She swallowed the lump in her throat. “I don’t deserve him.” She looked around the other women, unable to take the concerned looks. “Bellini me!”

“Did you ever consider that aftereverythingyou’ve been through, the sheer hell your life has been, that you deserve a kind, gorgeous, billionaire, goofball sex-god?” Justine mused.

“God?” Taylor’s nose wrinkled.

“I’m speculating.”

“Nah, she’s right,” Rebelle said, the Bellinis loosening her tongue and she slapped a hand over her mouth again. The shrieks of joy stirred baby Harley. They all quieted and waited until Harley was settled again before speaking.

“Worth it,” Justine snickered.

“For what it’s worth, I think you’re finally getting what you deserve, and so is he,” Taylor said.

Christy hugged her. “Don’t be afraid of it like I was,” she whispered, for Rebelle’s ears only. The advice that came from them, the way they cared about what happened to her and worked to help her achieve happiness had gratitude bubbling up inside her.

“Uh oh; Bellini her, Taylor. I can see tears coming and if they do then we’ll all go!” Christy snapped her fingers at Taylor who worked hard to pour the drink.
