He made a dismissive noise and waved his hand. “Nothing for you to worry about. Just business,” he lied.

She pursed her lips ready to call him on his shit, he could tell. He needed to distract her and pointed at the telescope. “Want to see?”

Rebelle’s expression changed and she nodded eagerly, dropping her bags and stepping closer to him. He moved back to give her access but there wasn’t much room and soon she was stepping in front of him; the heat from her warming him in the cool autumn air. He bent down to her ear, her hair blowing across his face in the breeze, a silky strand lingering on his lip, teasing him.

“Just look through here.” He tapped the eyepiece, and she leaned forward, her hand coming up to rest on the optical tube.

“Can you find the brightest star?” he whispered and watched as goosebumps spread across the length of her exposed neck and he fought every impulse to trace them with his tongue and press his lips to her neck. He tried to remind his libido that she didn’t want to pursue any entanglements because ofreasonsbut his body didn’t get the message.

“The northern star? I think so,” she interrupted his growing thoughts.

“Actually that’s not the brightest, it’s Sirius. Also called the Dog Star, very fitting for us, don’t you think?”

“I see it,” she breathed. “It’s stunning.”Tell me about it.

“Which one is your favorite?” she asked, keeping her eye to the telescope.

“Cassiopeia,” he replied instantly.

“Show me.”

He loved the command in her voice. He moved the telescope so it faced north and took up place in front of her, trying to find it.

“She’s hard to spot so far south but sometimes if you’re lucky or you know what you’re looking for you can see her.” He stepped back. “Here.”

Rebelle leaned to the eye piece again. “I can’t see anything.”

Will couldn’t resist cupping her jaw and tilting her head up a fraction, trailing his fingers away softly and he watched the shiver move through her and bit back a moan. She was so sensitive to touch, so reactive. He didn’t want to stop touching her so placed one palm on her narrow shoulder.

“This is the best time to see her, late fall. She kinda looks like a squished W. The star in the middle shines brighter than the sun and is much bigger. She’s the queen of energy but is destined to explode one day. She shines bright but it’ll be fleeting.”

“She’s beautiful.”

“She is.”

“Tell me more?”

He smiled to himself, loving her thirst for knowledge and finding someone who found stars as fascinating as him. “That one, Rho Cassiopeia, is also destined to explode as a Supernova which is essentially the biggest explosion that humans see. It’s when a star has reached the end of its life, and it goes out in a burst of light. It’s ten thousand light-years away which makes it one of the most distant stars.”

Rebelle gasped softly. “I can’t believe we’re able to see it!”

“And Rho Cas is in the process of doing that. It recently expelled twenty times more material than is contained in our combined solar system.”

“She’s powerful.” Awe dripped from Rebelle’s tone.

“She is, but temperamental. Just like you,” he whispered. Rebelle pulled away and looked up at him with wide eyes, so bright they reflected the stars right back at him.

“Will…” she warned.

He stepped closer, bringing them flush to each other, her soft body fitting to his and he fought a moan.

“Rebelle…”

“We can’t,” she said, firmly. It was that tone of voice that drove him wild. Before he could touch her, she moved back, breaking the spell. “Thank you for my astrology lesson.”

He smiled. “Astronomy.”

“And for today, I got you something.” She rummaged in her bags.
