“It’s fine darlin’. We still got ice cream,” Dean piped up.

“Mmm, it’s delicious!” Blake winked at her, always having her back. “Did you make it?”

“No.”

“Oh…” There was another pause before the laughter resumed.

When they finished their ice cream, a very untraditional Christmas dessert but it was all they had, Christy raised her glass in a toast.

“Merry Christmas and Feliz Navidad all! It’s been amazing and can’t wait to do it again next year and every year after that!” There was emphatic agreement and she continued, “To new traditions!” Everyone repeated the sentiment and clinked their glasses, and when she and Will clinked theirs, he squeezed her thigh meaningfully. “To new traditions,” he said softly, his eyes burning into hers.

She didn’t know how to respond. She didn’t know how he could say that knowing he would likely be leaving soon and going back to his normal life. Would he come back next year? Would he come backever?

She couldn’t bring herself to agree, just smiled at him. He turned back to the guys and her thoughts whirred away until she heard a gasp and Justine bolted up from her chair.

“Did you spill your drink?” Rebelle asked, taking in the wet patch on her orange skirt.

Justine raised wide eyes and looked at Blake. “No, I didn’t.”

There was a pause, then Blake leapt to his feet. “Oh, shit!” He gripped Justine’s hand. “Are you okay? You feeling okay? Are you in any pain?”

Justine released a shaky laugh. “I’m fine but ask me again in a few hours.”

“Oh my God!” Christy and Taylor shouted in unison.

“Your water broke?” Dean asked.

“I think it did, yeah. Taylor, sorry about the chair.”

Taylor waved her hand. “Don’t worry about that.”

Blake took her hand and steered her away from the table. “Sorry to cut this short everyone but we need to go.” He looked about him, patting his body.

“I’ve got the keys, but we need to go home and get the hospital bag,” Justine said, clinging to his arm.

“I’ve had one packed and ready in the car for months, we’re good to go,” he replied.

Justine paused her waddling and promptly burst into tears. “That. That right there is why I love you,” she wailed.

“Do you want any of us to come with you?” Beau asked.

“No, we’re goo- ah!” Justine yelped.

“Okay, we gotta go,” Blake said, leading her to the door. Justine blew kisses over her shoulder as she went. “I’ll get Blake to keep you all updated,” she called and then they were gone.

“A Christmas baby, cute! I hope they give him or her a Christmas related name,” Christy gushed.

Dean snorted. “You remember the bet, right? It’s Blake’s pick so it’s definitely going to be motorbike based.”

They stayed for a couple more drinks then set about cleaning up and rearranging the tables before all going their separate ways.

Later that night, Rebelle lay naked on top of Will, her head resting on his damp chest as his fingers twirled down her spine, both of them catching their breaths as they came down from world-shattering orgasms.

“Thank you for my favorite Christmas ever,” he rasped against her hair, his fingers tracing patterns over her back. The thought drifted through her mind again that she could stay like this forever and fear gripped her, cutting off her oxygen. The fear doubled when she realized that the pattern this adorable man was tracing around her scars were little love hearts.

A lump rose in her throat, but she had to address the future before they both continued on pretending. “You’re going to leave soon. Aren’t you?”

His fingers paused their dalliance and she heard the thud of his heart pounding through the wall of his chest.
