My heart soared. This was like a dream. His confession helped me piece it all together. The constant craving for his attention, the burning need, the desire to see him happy, content... the maddening urge to always have him close to me.

Oh my God!

It all made sense now; the reason why he spent less time at the clubs. The reason why I’d never heard him bring another woman home since Alexander and I have been there ...no one.Alexei Petrov lovedme. It shouldn’t have happened. He never tried to prove he had love to give.

But still... he chose me to start this new journey of his life.

More tears poured down my face and I kissed his cheeks. The ring caught my eye, and I already knew my answer.

Tobein love.

Tofallin love.

There was a time when I wondered if they meant the same thing and my time with him taught me all I needed to know. I loved him; and to be in love with Alexei meant I had fallenhard.

I’d fallen, despite his craziness, and the danger. It didn’t matter what threats or difficulties came. We chose our fate and destined our hearts for each other.

I hugged him. “I love you too. And yes, I’ll spend the rest of my years with you, as long as you won’t get bored with me.”Oh shit, why did I add those last words?

He smirked. That cocky, arrogant tilting of his perfect lips. “Trust me, kitten. I’ll never get bored with you, and you don’t have much of a choice.” He stroked my chin. “Remember: you’re already mine.”

“I’m yours, always have been, always will be,” I whispered. And I loved the warm shiver that ran from my head to my toes because I knew that I belonged to this man.

I parted my lips to say something when my phone chimed. I glanced at the screen. Sarah. Smiling, I swiped and put the phone on speaker.

“You called me, Ma’am?”

“Oh, yes,” I beat a hand in the air. “I needed you to take care of Xander while the boss and I went out. But don’t worry about that. Olivia’s with him.”

“Who’s Olivia, ma’am?”

I straightened in my seat and felt my fingers curl around my phone when Alexei’s eyes darkened. “Uh, Olivia, the... the new housekeeper? She’s watching Xander.”

Silence.

“Hello, Sarah?”

More deafening silence.

“Sarah!” Alexei thundered.

“Ma’am...boss,” her quiet voice unleashed dread from its cage, and it gripped with cold claw-like fingernails. “Ma’am, Xander is not in the house. I thought he was with you. And there’s no housekeeper working here with the name, Olivia.”

My phone fell from my hands and a loud ringing started in my ears.

Faintly, in the background, I heard Alexei barking orders into the phone to find his son.

Dull brown eyes. Scattered freckles across her cheeks. Shifty eyes. Crisp, clear accent in broad daylight.

Olivia.

No surname.

Intruder.

If I had paid more attention, I would have known.

Alexei never employed Americans.
