Not Alice, I bark at him, but he only pushes me harder to take her.

Yes, knot Alice, he quips back.

No. I can’t.

“You can sleep in here,” I call to Alice from the hallway, ignoring my wolf, howling in my head the thing I can never admit to her, or myself.

Alice is my mate.

She has barely taken two steps into the small, shared space between the kitchen and living room. There, she stares at the fireplace. The flannel blanket from my car is still wrapped tightly around her slim shoulders, tickled by the dark, silky waves of her hair. A perfect bookend to the bottom of the long skirt ofthat fucking dress, pooling at her feet, wet from the snow coming down way too fast outside. Threatening to keep us here for more than the one night I promised.

Perfect, my wolf growls.

I snarl outwardly. “I’ll get you something to wear.” I turn to enter my room.

On my way back out, holding one of my T-shirts for her to wear to bed, I almost plow Alice over. “This ismyroom. Yours is across the hall,” I snap at her.

She spins on her heel and crosses the hall.

“This is stupid,” she says, standing next to the bed in the spare room.

I toss the shirt on the bed since she refuses to open the blanket even a little bit to stick her hand out and take it from me.

Probably for the best. If my wolf glimpses even a sliver of her milky breasts again, he’ll pounce.

“You could have taken me home. I wouldn’t have gone back to the bar.” Her eyes droop as she struggles to keep them open. The alcohol seems to finally be settling into her bloodstream.

“You’re here now. Sleep.” I step out of the room and shut the door behind me. Worried if I had stayed with her too long, even if I could keep my wolf contained, I wouldn’t have the will to deny myself. Snatch the blanket from her. Get another look at her in that dress before going to bed to rub one out, thinking about how fucking perfectly she fills it out.

As long as she changes and stays in her room…

“Where’s the bathroom?” Alice asks, throwing her door open and pushing her way past me.

My wolf claws behind my skin again.

Holy fuck, she’s just as hot barefoot and padding down the hall, wearing nothing but my shirt than she was in that fucking dress.

“On your left,” I tell her before she opens the closet across the hall.

Alice turns and enters the bathroom, slamming the door behind her.

I still can’t believe how much she’s grown up.

All night, watching her flirt with all of those men—pissing me right the fuck off—I tried to set myself straight and remember the little girl I left behind all those years ago. But she’s long gone. The woman she is now is undeniable. Especially in that fucking dress, showing off the softest, most luscious curves I’d kill to sink my teeth into.

My wolf purrs, thinking about it as my tongue flicks over my canines aching to grow. Taste flesh.

“Hurry the fuck up,” I shout and pound my fist on the door.

“Did you already forget all the bitching you did about how much I drank tonight?” she shouts back.

I didn’t forget, but the longer she’s in there and not safely tucked away in her own room, the longer I’m stuck with this fucking hard-on. The more likely it is to get the best of me before I can strangle the life out of it, and instead end up doing something I shouldn’t with my best friend and boss’ daughter.

Our mate, my wolf insists before I can shut him down.

“You happy?” Alice spits when she throws the bathroom door open.

I point with my whole arm at her room. “Go to bed.”
