His gaze cuts sharply to me. “You know her?”

“Not exactly. But I’m pretty sure she’s a Mincetti.”

All three men stiffen.

“What would a Mincetti be doing at my sister’s wedding?” Tony asks, brown eyes flashing.

“My best guess is that they’re looking for trouble,” I reply.

“They never do anything without good reason,” Christian mutters. “Every action is deliberate when it comes to them. How the hell did you meet her?”

“She approached me,” I say on a shrug. “They seem to have a vendetta against the De Lucas and me by association. I’m not sure what it is. I kept quiet because they didn’t seem to make any moves after our meeting.”

“What did they want?” Tony questions.

“They wanted me to choose. Between a partnership with your family and theirs. I chose yours.”

I watch as that information sinks in.

“It still doesn’t explain what they want,” Carlo states.

“Yes, but we’re going to find out,” Christian says, a determined look in his eyes. “Let’s go, Tony. First we need to confirm if she’s actually a Mincetti. This is good, actually; I’ve been curious about that family for years.”

He and Tony walk away just as the women arrive. Christian kisses his wife on the cheek and tells her he’ll be back. Rosa moves over to me. I don’t hesitate to wrap my arms around her waist.

“Hey,” I greet.

She offers me a warm smile that confuses me slightly “Do you want to dance?”

“Sure, sweetheart.”

I lead her to where the married couple glides across the dance floor. Rosa and I start to sway, and I arch an eyebrow at the smile on her face.

“You’re in a good mood.”

“It’s a wedding, Enzo.”

“So everyone keeps saying. I’m unsure why an event has any power over a person’s emotions.”

She shakes her head. “You’re so annoying.”

“Pretty sure you mean amazing,” I tease.

Rosa rolls her eyes. “I’ve been thinking, though. And I feel like I owe you an apology.”

That gives me pause. “About?”

“The other night. I never should have pushed you like that. You asked me to stop and I should have listened.”

My hand tightens around her waist. “Don’t apologize for that,” I say sharply.

I should be the one apologizing. Because I know deep down that I’m the problem here. She’s trying her hardest to bridge the gap, but I can’t help the things I’ve been hardwired to feel since I was a little boy. I keep wanting to break free of the shackles, but it’s even harder because I know with her, there’s no going back.

“We were in the middle of something and I ruined it,” she says, her eyes soft.

After I left her room, I went to mine and took a cold shower while feeling completely miserable. My entire life, I’ve had to be strong and emotionless. Rosa is challenging everything I’ve become and it’s making me a little insane. The worst fucking part is, I don’t mind. “You didn’t ruin anything, sweetheart. I promise.”

“I talked to my mom about it and asked for her advice. She told me to be patient. To accept who you are and what you’re ready to give me.”
