“The new Don of the Russos. He’s asked for an audience,” my brother says.

“Why do you look so worried?” Elena questions.

Tony speaks up. “Because the guy’s fucking crazy.”

“Crazy good or crazy bad?” I ask.

Tony pauses, thinking about the question.

“We don’t know,” my brother says. “We don’t know anything about him, actually. He’s the one who returned Cassie to us when she was kidnapped. He became the Don after that incident and since then has been conducting his business low-key. We don’t have much information on him.”

“He’s a slippery eel,” Tony mutters.

“At first glance, he’s just as dangerous as the next made man in the Cosa Nostra. But he hasn’t been in the Cosa Nostra all these years. The guy showed up a couple of months ago, had his uncle killed, and then claimed the title of Don.”

“And now he’s asking for a meeting?” Elena asks.

“Yeah. I told him it would be on our own turf. He can only bring a man or two. I’m curious to hear what he has to say.”

Elena arches an eyebrow. “You like him.”

My brother’s eyes narrow. “No, I don’t.”

“Please, you were talking him up just now. You’re at least intrigued by him,” his fiancée teases.

“I’m curious,” he corrects. “He seems like my kind of person, though.”

“A caveman with no sense of humor and control issues?” I interject with a smile.

His gaze cuts to me with a glare. “Very funny, sorella.”

I shrug.

“Just be careful, okay?” Elena asks, drawing his eyes back to hers. “Your new best friend could very well want a fight.”

“Nah, I doubt it,” Roman says. “He’s not an idiot.”

“You just said he was crazy,” I mutter.

“He is,” Tony states. “But you can be crazy and smart.”

“That barely makes any sense.”

He sighs. “Trust me, Rosy, we know.”

“I hate that we know next to nothing about him,” Roman says. “But he asked for an audience, and we’re going to hear him out. Enzo Russo has no choice but to be careful. Right now, he’s trying to piece back his family’s reputation. He won’t do anything dumb.”

Enzo Russo. I turn the name over in my head. I have to agree with my brother. He actually does sound interesting.

CHAPTER 3

Enzo

We’re searched three times before we’re allowed in the private offices of the Don of the De Lucas. By the time the door opens, I’m feeling slightly irritated, and my lips curl into a smirk as I take Roman in. He’s in a black suit, seated behind the desk with a calm, controlled expression.

“You know, if you were worried I was carrying a bomb, all you had to do was ask,” I say, walking into the room.

Jason’s right behind me. I take in the other occupants of the room. Roman’s cousin Michael is standing behind his chair. Tony’s against the wall, cool brown eyes revealing his annoyance.
