“I have a couple of things to say, Rosa. They’re not vows per se, I just wanted to thank you,” I say quietly.

Her expression softens. “You’re about to make me cry. Aren’t you?”

“Probably.”

Everyone laughs. I inhale deeply before I begin.

“I lived the majority of my life alone. Without any love, any warmth. And I foolishly thought that was living. I was content to remain that way. I saw no reason for change. Until you came into my life. I’m aware I always say that I know everything, but I really didn’t know what I was getting into with you. There was alot of uncertainty, a lot of nights spent wide awake as I thought about you. There were a lot of fights and arguments, which, trust me, I wasn’t expecting,” I say dryly.

Rosa lets out a watery laugh, tears already sliding down her cheeks.

“You really turned my life upside-down. In the best way possible. And you made me feel. When I met you, I finally felt warmth, and although the journey was slow, I learned to love, too. You have the best heart, baby. I see it every day. You were ready to give up something you loved because you didn’t want me to feel hurt or lonely. Today was the worst day of my life, but now I get to replace that memory with this one. With the sight of you standing in front of me as you agree to marry me. I really don’t deserve you, sweetheart. But I’ll spend every single waking moment of my life working hard toward being better for you,” I promise. “Thank you, Rosario. Thanks for being my bright light. Thanks for pushing me to be better. Thank you for being my better half. I love you.”

Once I’m done, the church erupts in cheers.

“I love you, too. So much.” Rosa mouths the words to me as tears continue running down her face.

Once the shouts from the guests lesson, we’re pronounced husband and wife.

“You may now kiss the bride.”

The touch of my lips against hers is searing. I feel it deep within me. She’s mine, and I’m never letting go. We walk down the aisle together—Mr. and Mrs. Enzo Russo. I don’t let go of her hand once as we head over to the reception.

The look on Rosa’s face as she takes in the venue is worth everything I did, going behind her back. The decorations are in Christmas colors, red and green. There are bright lights everywhere and a giant Christmas tree to the side. It’s exactly what she wanted.

“You’re the best,” she says in awe.

I smile. “Merry Christmas,principessa.”

“Merry Christmas,mi amore.”

The rest of the night is spent in the company of the family I’ve gained thanks to her. Looking back at my life, I never would have thought I would be here. But Rosa made it possible.

I want to share every aspect of life with her—both the joys and sorrows, embracing all facets of her love. I envision growing old together, raising children, and cherishing her eternally.

“What do you say I put a baby in you tonight?” I suggest. She grins, “Can we start in the car?” Excitement courses through me as I eagerly carry her to the car, my anticipation fueling an intense passion.

Time to create our legacy.

The End.
