“It's dark, and anything can happen while we're sleeping.”

“I'm not going to sleep, remember?”

“Why?”

“Because I'm not tired.” I look back at the TV the moment he shifts enough for the sheet to fall down his body, revealing his tiny nubs. The light coming from the TV is enough to make out their shape and color. Focusing on the show in front of me isn't helping me forget what I last saw and I almost want to hold my head in place to keep it from turning again.

“You're keeping something from me.” His voice trembles.

“What makes you think that?”

“You didn't bother to stay awake the other times and you seem more on guard than before.”

“I'm always on guard.” My grip tightens on the arms of the chair.

“Not like this. You're worried about something. It's making me worry.”

“Stop acting like you know me and go to sleep.”

“I can't.”

“Just close your eyes and count egg, bacon, and cheese sandwiches.”

His light laughter sends a warmth through me. “Don't you mean sheep?”

“I mean whatever will make you be quiet and leave me alone.”

“I'll be quiet if you come lay with me for a bit.”

Sitting up straighter, I meet his gaze. “I don't think so.”

“Oh come on. Please? I relax better when someone's next to me.”

“Is this how you sleep at the warehouse too?”

His bottom lip curls. “Who says I sleep at the warehouse?”

I frown, an ugly sensation stirring in my gut at his look of hopelessness. “Alright. Ten minutes is all you get and then I'm back in the chair.”

“I might need longer than that,” he whines.

“Ten is all you get.” Getting to my feet, I shrug out of my coat and slowly approach the bed. He turns to his side, facing away from me as I climb in behind him.

“Thank you.”

“Mhm.” I scoot close enough for my side to press against his back, hoping it's good enough. It isn't, as he then turns his head and asks, “Can you hold me?”

“What?”

“The last two times we slept together, I think what really helped me was the weight of your legs on me.”

“My legs?”

Smirking, he scoots back enough for his body to be partly on top of mine. “You don't only walk in your sleep, you cuddle too.” He wiggles his body a little. “See, doesn't the weight of another person feel nice?”

“For the last time, I don't sleepwalk. I was half asleep coming back from the bathroom.”

“Whatever you need to tell yourself, big guy.”
