"Wake up, asshole." A pillow slams down on my face and the next time it comes in contact with my nose, it's smothering me. Kicking my legs and arms, I scream into the pillow. Suffocating beneath the weight on top, I start to black out and then the pillow is lifted off me. A loud crash sounds in the backgroundand everything spins around me. I blink my eyes a few times, taking in gasps while everything slowly comes into focus.

A few people surround me. Some familiar faces and others I've never seen before. Newcomers. It's never a good thing when the beds once belonging to someone else are now being used by fresh meat. Other prisoners who are made promises that will never be kept.

"Back to your fucking beds." A loud, deep voice vibrates in my ears. "I said move it," the man shouts again, and judging by the way his voice goes straight to my cock, it can only be one person—Antonio. Coming to my rescue when I least expected. Will he accept a thank you fuck from me today if I offer one?

I hadn't seen him in weeks and I hated each minute. He never steps this far into the warehouse. Does that mean he came here for me? Or is he here to get someone else? Is he on one of the small errands Zacharias has been sending him on due to everyone else being needed elsewhere?

"You okay, burrito?" A hand reaches toward me and I take it, allowing him to help me sit up.

"Everything is a little fuzzy is all."

"The other guy will be punished for what he did." Fury is evident in his dark eyes and I want to burn in the rising flames.

"It's fine. It was all a misunderstanding. He thinks I stole something of his when I didn't.” It wasn't me this time, and he isn't aware it was me who swiped his Twizzlers last time.

"He could have killed you, and if he did then you would miss tomorrow's delivery. We can't miss a deadline with a valuable client due to some silly pillow incident." He tries to pull his hand back but I hold on to his fingers, acting like they are the only thing holding me up. Maybe they are. Wait, we're going on another delivery together? I was told it would be me and some new guy next time. I'm glad they changed their mind. I won't get my hopes up assuming it was his decision.

"You're saying you don't actually care about me dying but about what it will cost you?"

He shakes his head. "I didn't say those exact words but you dying could cost a lot of other lives, and if removing one troubled individual prevents all that then I can have it done. He's new anyway and we still don't know if he's worth keeping around. You on the other hand are—"

"A street rat with a useful skill?"

"Something like that." He chuckles awkwardly, his hand finally breaking free from mine.

"Got any magical lamps I can rub or maybe something else?" I quirk a brow.

"Huh?" His brows furrow. "Not sure how that relates to anything happening now. What do lamps have to do with swallowing drugs?"

"Nothing." I sigh in frustration. What is with this man? Why is he so bad at reading between the lines? He can't seriously be this oblivious. “I thought you weren't going to work with me again?”

“I wasn't. It was going to be you, the new guy, and Alex tomorrow but something happened.”

Hair raises on the back of my neck. “Like what?”

“Another job gone wrong.” Alex didn't only help with deliveries, he also worked as an insider, getting close and sleeping with the enemy for info. He liked doing it and was good at using his body to manipulate rich, horny criminals who were bored at home.

“Is Alex…” I suck air between my teeth. “Is he… dead?”

“No. But he is in critical condition. Severely beaten. We're not sure if he'll pull through or not. The other man who was supposed to accompany you ran inside while it was happening and took a bullet to the head. Enrico doesn't want to send someone new again, so it'll be me, you, and Fernando in Florida. We need to get there in less than twenty hours so we’re flying commercial.”

“At least it's in this country. We don't have to deal with going through customs.”

“Yeah. Getting there will be the easy part but the man we're meeting is a new client.”

Great. I hate the new ones. At least I know what to expect from the regulars. I'm told ahead of time what they like and are capable of so I can prepare myself. I hate surprises. I wouldn't if they weren't mostly bad. Not all of them can be Antonio and I wish they were.

“So why are you here a day early?”

“To give you time to absorb everything in hopes it’ll help you stress less tomorrow.” His gaze shifts away from me, as if he's worried I'll see the real truth in his eyes.

“What else?”

“Huh?” He sits down on the small, creaky bed, leaving too big of a gap between us.

“You're leaving something out assuming you're doing me a favor. You're not. So stop stalling and spill it.”

“There was a man caught sneaking around the warehouse the last two nights. This morning he tried to take down one of the guards and had his throat slit before questions could be asked.”
