“He's either lying or they fucked with his head,” I say, stepping closer.

“You're as delusional as your little pink haired freak. I don't have a brother.”

“No. You had two. Lucian and Garrett. Your name is Ethan.”

Something flickers in his eyes and then quickly fades away. He shakes his head. “He said people might try to trick me someday. That they would only say these things to turn me against him.”

“That’s rich coming from a damn kidnapper and con artist. Where's Phillip?”

“I don't know. I was sleeping before you assholes came in shooting up the place. And I swear if either of you hurts Eddie—”

“You'll thank us later. Trust me,” Tyson says, lowering his knife.

“Stay with him. Don't let him out of your sight.”

“I won't.” Tyson forces Ethan's arms behind his back.

“Lucky for you I'm into a little bondage.” Ethan waggles his brows at Tyson and the larger man rolls his eyes, shoving him down onto the couch.

“Don't talk and I won't be forced to put your ass in a deep sleep.”

“I'd prefer you wait until your cock’s inside me before choking me out but I'm into somnophilia too.” Ethan's voice travels as I make my way to the first room. Yeah, he's definitely related to Phillip. I enter the master bedroom and the balcony door is open. Shit. I rush toward it and see Eddie dragging Phillip to the front yard. An engine roars by the time I reach the bottom of the balcony stairs. The car is already pulling onto the road when I finally reach the front yard. I shoot at the tires but the car gets away.

I'm about to run toward Tyson’s car when whispering in the bushes has me turning around, no longer caring about the person getting away. I've seen many tactics over the past years that I’ve spent chasing people. The man I'm after will pretend to flee when in reality it's someone he paid to speed away in his car to throw me off. Eddie and Phillip are still here.

“Come out, come out wherever you are. You really don't want to make me work harder than I have to.”

“Don't come any closer or I'll shoot.” Eddie steps out of a grouping of trees, holding Phillip at gunpoint.

“No you won't. You need him alive. For what, I still don't know, but if you kill him, your men and little twink will have died for nothing.”

“Ethan,” Phillip mutters.

Eddie grins. “There's nothing you took from me that can't be easily replaced.”

“Not yet.” Quickly aiming my gun to the ground, I shoot him in the foot and he screams, lifting his leg and squinting his eyes. I shoot his arm and he grimaces, not dropping the gun until a bullet goes through his hand.

“Fuck,” he says with a groan, stumbling back.

Phillip rushes forward and I shove him behind me. “Go inside the house, burrito. I’d rather you not see this.”

“I'm not going anywhere. This man took so much from me. Him and his fucking husband.”

I blink back at him. “What?”

“Apparently my father was so desperate for cock he allowed this asshole to trick him into killing my mom and marrying him instead. He was still nothing more to my dad than a dirty little secret.”

“Takes a dirty little secret to know one.” Eddie's gaze shifts between us. Anger roars inside me. We are way too damn obvious to ever be a secret. My eyes always land on him first when we're in a room, struggling to look anywhere else. Phillip is the first person I go to no matter where we are. I want to go to him now. Yes, he lied to me—and yes, he’s technically my brother-in-law—but I want him nonetheless. So much it consumes me and whenever I'm too far away from him, breathing becomes a chore.

“I wouldn't talk if I were you.” My muscles tighten in my jaw and I shoot him in the other leg, earning me another scream.

“Last chance, burrito. You may think you know who I am, but you haven't seen what I'm capable of.”

“You're wrong, I have.” He places a hand on my shoulder, nudging his nose against my cheek. “You saving us that day is what brought me to you. You promised to always make sure we were safe, and I only wanted to make sure you kept your promise.”

My heart stammers. “You saw me kill your dad?”

“Yes. I replay the moment in my head all the time. I'd never seen him so weak before and because of you, I wasn't scared of him anymore.”
