“The headache will wear off,” the man said. “And you escaped your apartment without so much as a scratch.”
I doubted that, but since I couldn’t talk, I just glared like I was trying to burn a deep hole of hatred through him.
He met my eyes, and I swear I saw a pained look on his face.
“We’re going to be here for a while,” he said. “Might as well get to know each other, Emma. My name’s Jack Baker. I wish we could have met under better circumstances, but you tried to escape. I tried to reason with you. I even gave you the benefit of the doubt.” He shook his head. “Guess a man needs to be firmer with beautiful, young women.”
I tried to curse at him, but all that came out of my mouth was croak. Then I felt a cool breeze and I noticed that he was still eyeing me up and down. Horrified, I realized I was still in my bra and panties.
He chuckled.
“We didn’t have much of a choice of where to go,” he said. “There’s more people out there, looking for you.”
A ray of hope hit me. Perhaps it was my father’s men. He was always in the middle of some kind of gang war, so it made sense.
“But don’t worry, beautiful,” said Jack. “I ain’t gonna let them take you without a fight.”

She wasn’t going anywhere, and dear god, I was glad about that. As much as I hated being on babysitting duty, I was glad that she was, at the very least, easy on the eyes. Her red hair, blue eyes, and fiery attitude were simply irresistible. I had to restrain myself. It was a really good thing that she did not like me. At all.
It was an even better thing that I had made sure our location was shrouded in secrecy. Unless the King Mafia turned the area upside down, there was no way they would find us. We were deep underground, the dripping of the water reminding me just how much of a commodity this girl was. She was worth millions to us. Right next to her, the radio squawked to life and garbled my name.
“Mr. Baker?” said the tinny voice on the radio.
Emma laughed at that. “Mr. Baker? What are you, my science teacher?”
I knew she was trying to get on my nerves. She was a smart cookie, and she’d do anything she could to distract me.
“Call me Jack,” I said. Then I picked up the radio. “10-4, I have her here. Are we ready to set up the ransom talks?”
“You could have just waited till he called, you know,” Emma said, sounding pretty annoyed. “Instead, you jerks just took me here, like the control freaks you are.”
I didn’t say a word. I was listening for the radio, which seemed to be nonoperational at the moment.
“You could have at least put me in some clothes,” she said before I could radio again. She kicked me in the ankle as I walked past, looking for a better signal, and I rolled my eyes.She just doesn’t want this to be easy, does she?
“Boss told me to bring you as is,” I said. Truth be told, I just liked seeing her like this, and we were on a tight schedule. If the money didn’t come in soon, we wouldn’t be able to fund the next phase of our drug operation in the city. The boss, Braden Reed, really wouldn’t like that.
“See, you’re not even your own man,” she said. She sounded desperate, like her reality was finally sinking in her mind.
I shook the radio. “Are we ready for the ransom talks?” I asked over the comm. Static, and then nothing.
Emma laughed.
I turned to her. “Hey, the sooner this gets done, the better. For all of us. Your pops pays us off, and you get to go home, safe and sound.”
“Oh, someone’s going to pay,” she shot back. “Daddy has eyes on me at all times.”
I doubted that. We had spent weeks planning her kidnapping; if he’d really had eyes on, it was unlikely that her father would have let this happen to her.
“And you still got kidnapped,” I said. “Goes to show how much your father really cares.”
The look of fury on her face was so pure and hateful that I couldn’t help but imagine myself dominating her and punishing her for being such a bad little girl.
“You’ll see,” she said. Her sexy, angry expression and the red hair falling down over her eyes was tantalizing.
