“Thank you,” he says.

“Why? You’re the one who helped me. I should be saying thank you,” I reply.

He shakes his head.

“I’m saying that because you did a good job. Because I have no idea what you’re going through, but seeing you panic like that made me scared, and you were able to calm yourself down.

You did a good,” he adds, patting my hand.

“Thank you,” I whisper.

I’m not sure what the feeling is aside from the warmth that creeps up my body when Logan’s fingers remain on my arm, but I know it makes my heart beat faster. It’s a strange feeling yet oddly familiar, so I gently move back.

“Ah—Ethan is here because he’s done with the case. For now. He has to report to his superiors and re-strategize before he continues the investigation.”

I want to ask what Ethan is looking into, but I keep my question to myself because the only reason I’m curious is because of what I see in my dreams.

As Logan pointed out, my mind could be confusing many things and painting the wrong image. He doesn’t know the content of my dream, though, so I’m not sure I wholly believe him.

“Okay.” I nod. “I’ll just be here. Doing what I always do. Tell him I said hi, though.”

“I will.”

As he leaves, I let out a heavy sigh.

The talk I had with Ethan the other day he came around made me feel like I had someone who understood. He sounded more like an older brother than a stranger who got into a scrape one time and dealt with memory loss.

I could resonate with his words, and now… I wish I could go out there and sit with the rest of them, talking about everything and nothing. But I’m a stranger. I’m the one who doesn’t have a name or a history.

I’m the person who should remain in her room and try to get her memory back, even though Doctor Owen told me two daysago that everything is fine, with my mental block being the only exception.

Sighing again, I close my door and go back to bed.

Faint knocking on my door and the fact that I was about to drift off to sleep some hours after Logan came by—wakes me up.

I put my feet on the ground and head to it, only to hear the muffled sounds of Logan and Madison conversing. Curious, I gently put my ear to the door to listen.

“We should knock again,” Madison says.

“We don’t know if she’s sleeping, and we don’t want to disturb her,” Logan replies. His voice is lower, and it takes closing my eyes and paying more attention to pick out his words.

“You said you wanted to take her into town,” Madison says. “You said she hasn’t been out of the house since she came around. Except the hospital, and it’s not a fun place to be.”

“But she hasn’t answered, has she?”

“No.”

“Then we should go.”

I hear the sound of disappointment from Madison and the shuffling of reluctant feet.

No. No. Don’t go anywhere.

Not wanting to be left alone and bored out of my mind, I yank the door open. “I’ll go.”

Two pairs of eyes turn to look at me. “You’ll go?”

“You were listening?”
