“It’s okay.” I shake my head. “I got so lost in the cooking that I didn’t hear you. I don’t know why.”

I laugh nervously. “Maybe I was a cook? Zoning out while in the kitchen is something a cook would do.”

He strokes his chin.

“Hm. That sounds logical. And I’m leaning towards that theory because whatever you’re cooking…” He leans forward and inhales. “...Smells so good. I don’t think I’ve smelt anything this good in my life.”

I don’t pay attention to his words. He lost me the moment he leaned forward.

What I am is all too aware of Logan’s presence—so close to me. His chest is inches from my back, his head is towering above mine, and his smell…heavens, did the man wake up smelling like that?

It’s like something you’d want to roll in the sheets with. I feel my mind drifting away. My imagination take over.

As he press closer to me, I can't help but notice his masculine scent and the warmth emanating from his body. The wall of his muscular chest is against my back, his body heat seeping through my thin blouse like a tangible force that sent waves of desire coursing through my veins.

Logan's face is so close that I could feel his warm breath on my neck with each exhale, creating ripples of sensation down my spine and causing goosebumps to form on my skin. My heart is pounding in my chest as I feel his firm lips against mine, the thought alone sending shivers of anticipation through my body.

The tangy smell of seasoned pasta sauce simmers in the background, but all I can focus on is Logan's earthy scent—fresh linen mixed with a hint of masculine musk. It’s intoxicating. A shiver runs through me when he leans closer, tilting his head towards me until his nose lightly graze my cheek. The light stubble scrapes softly against my skin causing everything inside me to tighten deliciously.

I turn around slowly, locking eyes with him for what feels like an eternity before moving a strand of hair from his forehead. His handsome face is so close; I become fascinated by the gentle curve of his full lips, wondering how they would feel on mine—tender yet urgent.

Feeling emboldened, I inch forward, brushing a shy kiss onto Logan's lips. He tastes intoxicating, just like he smells—fresh and masculine with a hint of something unidentifiable yet undeniably addictive.

I hear Logan suck in a sharp breath before returning the kiss passionately, pressing harder as if trying to absorb every last drop of taste from my mouth. His hands travel from holding my waist, gliding up along the curve of my back before settling around my neck, pulling me closer to deepen the kiss.

I cling to him, my fingers grasping at his shirt as he presses me against the cool kitchen counter. A surge of electricity runs through my body as Logan's lips leave a trail of fire down my neck, igniting every inch of my skin. He slides his hand under my blouse, sending shivers of anticipation coursing through my body.

I shake my head trying to escape these thoughts.

“No.”

“‘No?’”

Oh shit. Did I say that aloud?

“Uhm, I was talking about basil. I’m unsure if I have enough left to top the pasta when ready. But it’s all good,” I say, stepping to the side. “It’s early.”

He spreads out his arms.

“I’m an early riser. A product of my job many years ago, but it’s stuck with me all these years. Are you an early riser?”

“Hm.” I give him a sideways smile and shrug. “I don’t know. I think I am an early riser because it felt kind of normal getting up to make breakfast. maybe I was a cook?”

Logan laughs.

“Don’t overthink it. If you were, it’ll come to you. I promise. We just have to give it some time.”

I nod. “Yeah. I know. I know.”

But I wasn’t thinking about how hard it was for me to remember until he pointed it out. Now… I feel a little less inclined to carry on as though nothing happened.

Thankfully, I’m saved by Madison, who comes running into the kitchen. Logan stops her flight midway.

“You’re going to crash into something, young lady. And then you’ll have a big bump on your head that will only grow bigger as time goes on.”

Madison clicks her tongue and shakes her head disapprovingly.

“You know I’m not a baby, right? I know when you’re lying. If there is a bump on my head, I go to the hospital, and Doctor Owen makes it go away. It’s not going to be bigger, Daddy.”
