Kaylee and I laugh as she walks proudly to the trunk, raising it high.

“Let’s get into the cabin so I can help her with the rest of our bags.”

She nods, and with our fingers interlocked, we head up the porch and to the front door. I knock, and seconds later, it reveals two people: Ethan and Grace.

Grace, who has met Kaylee only twice, pulls her into a side hug.

“Darling. You look amazing,” she says. “Positively radiant!”

Kaylee laughs, and they walk into the house.

“Daddy?” Madison calls out. “How do I close this? It’s too high?”

My eyes widen in panic.

“Don’t jump, Madison!” Ethan yells out, dashing out and towards the car. “You’re going to lose some fingers if you do!”

I follow him, laughing my head off.

With the luggage and groceries put away, we settle down in the living room. Kaylee with the baby and I, with Madison seated on my lap. Ethan and his wife, hands interlocked on a couch.

“So,” I rub my hands. “How did you guys find the cabin? Romantic, no?”

“Well,” Ethan winks at his wife, “we didn’t have plans of having a baby all these years, but after this week, I think we might have popped one in the oven. Two, maybe. But if the number of times you do it determines the—”

“Okay, okay,” I cut in. “That’s too much information. I just wanted to know if Grace liked it. And I can tell that you liked it too. I hope the sheets are changed, and everything is… family-safe.”

“Yup,” he nods. “Family safe. PG-10 for you and your little ones. How was your vacation, by the way?”

I open my mouth to speak, but Madison launches into a tirade about all the fun things she did on the one-week trip we took to Bali two months before Kaylee gave birth to our baby girl.

Lily.

The name we decided to give her as soon as Kaylee found out she was pregnant. Which was a month after we left Silver Peak in hopes of discovering more about her life before we met on that road. On that stormy night.

And then there was theotherissue. It took some time as I worked with Ethan to catch thebastard, and then there was the legal aspect. After a couple months, Kaylee didn't want to dwell on the past anymore.

She didn't want to see Michael or think about what happened to her. She wanted to move on.

And so, we traveled around the country. Around the world.

But Lily was something unanimous. It just felt right. Not only because it was the name Madison gave Kaylee, but it was the identity she held on to until she found hers again.

It was perfect.

“We were thinking of staying the night if you guys don’t mind,” Ethan says. “We stayed in your room, Kaylee. I hope that’s alright with you, too?”

She waves her hand. “It’s fine. Logan and I sleep together anyway. I mean, it would be strange if we decided to stay in separate rooms, wouldn’t it?”

Then she shoots me a filthy look followed by a wink that absolutely turns me on. Because she just knows how to get me going, I lean in to kiss her on the mouth.

“Ewww,” Madison says. “You’ve been doing a lot of that since.”

“A lot of what?” I ask, laughing.

“Kissing. Uncle Ethan, Daddy kisses Mommy everywhere. In the kitchen, in the living room, and he kissed her when he was driving here. I told him that we would get into an accident!”

Ethan shakes his head.
