“Look, I know Tyler can be a hothead, but I also can’t look as if I’m letting you off easy because you’re dating my daughter. I’ll let this go, but next time, I’ll have to bar you from an upcoming game if you fight with one of the team players. Same will apply to Tyler.” He’s studying me, his expression stern.

I clench my jaw, fighting the urge to argue back. But I need to pick my battles, and this isn’t one I can win.

“Understood, Coach,” I grunt.

As I start my way back, he’s suddenly at my side, and I pause, facing him. What now?

“There’s something else. I haven’t had a chance to tell Emily this morning. She was fast asleep, but I want you and her to come to the Build a Home, Build a Future charity fundraiser. It’s tomorrow night. I’m helping run it with a group of friends, and we need more numbers to flesh out the room. So, I want you both there. No black tie, but not jeans and tees either. Think you can do that, son?”

How can I refuse a command like that, though it begs the question of why isn’t he just calling her to tell her himself?

“Sure, Coach, we’ll be there,” I reply.

“Good, I’ll email you the details,” he states before walking off.

As I jog to join the team, I realize the day is going to be fucking amazing. This is the perfect excuse to see Emily again, and that thought alone is enough to lift my spirits after dealing with Tyler.

After training and a hot shower in the lockers, I get a coffee from the cafe on campus and message Emily, doing it in her style—in photos.

Grabbing my coffee, I head out to where the main stores are on campus. I approach a store that sells clothes that has a male mannequin out in front dressed in a black suit. So, I take a selfie of me and the mannequin, with me pointing at him.

The next photo is of my stopwatch on my phone, setting it to seven p.m., then taking a screen grab. I send a car emoji right after, to imply I’m picking her up. The final photo is of a blank party invitation pack I found inside the university store that sells all manner of stationery.

Once they’re gone, I stare at my screen like an obsessed man, waiting for her response… then those dancing lines appear, and I grin to myself. Then her message pops up on my screen.

Nah, I’m not going to Dad’s fundraising party. It’s a snorefest

Snorefest? But I was going to show off my dance moves ??

Oh really? I didn’t know statues posing near mannequins could dance??

Ouch. You’d be surprised by my moves. Ever heard of legendary dance moves?

LOL Sounds like something my grandpa would do at a wedding

Come on, it’ll be fun. Plus, you get to dress up and hang out with me. You’ve already set my world on fire, Em

Flattering, but don’t expect me to swoon just yet

Oh, you’ll swoon. You’ll find yourself getting lost in the rhythm with me. Fair warning: side effects include a racing heart and being unable to keep your hands off me.

Is that so?

So, that’s a yes?

Still deciding

Well, if you’re a good girl tonight, you might get more… ??

She doesn’t respond, and I’m gutted… maybe I pushed her too far? I have my sights set on this gorgeous girl, and she has no idea what’s coming for her—I will make her mine… for real.

Suddenly, a message pings on my phone. Frantically, I lift it to my face, staring at her words, and grin.

See you tomorrow at 7

Oh, fuck!Did she just say yes to more cock?

I’m smiling so hard, my cheeks are about to burst. I punch the air, then meander through the campus to class.
