Felina didn’t have to give him the address. He’d been there on several occasions in the past few weeks, ordering flowers.

The drive to her shop didn’t take long, making Felina all the happier she’d agreed to let Lucas drive her there. It would have taken a lot longer to walk the short distance. And, though she wouldn’t admit it to the Delta, she was a little spooked by the man who’d thrown the other man into the backseat of the SUV.She wondered what had happened to the one who’d pushed her.Had they taken him to rough him up or kill him?

She shivered at the thought and made a mental note to touch base with Shelby the following day to see if the sheriff’s department had located the SUV without a license plate.

As Lucas pulled to a stop in front of the flower shop, Felina unbuckled her seatbelt.“Thank you for the ride,” she said, her hand on the door handle.

“My pleasure,” he said as he shoved open the door and dropped to the ground.

Felina shoved open the heavy door and slipped out of her seat, her feet feeling for the running board.

Before she could get her footing, those strong hands gripped her waist again.

Lucas lifted her out of the truck.

She wrapped her arms around his neck to stabilize herself and then slid down his front, landing on her feet.

At that point, he didn’t immediately release her.

He pressed a kiss to her forehead and whispered, “Do you have nosey neighbors around your shop?”

“Just the widow who lives above the real estate office across the street.”Her back was to Mrs.Lebowitz’s upstairs apartment.“Is the light shining around the curtains?”she asked.

Lucas lifted his head.“It is, and the curtain moved.I think someone is looking out.We need to make this good.”He cupped her chin and tipped her face upward, his thumb brushing against her cheek.“Is she one of the people parading men through your shop?”

Felina found it difficult to breathe, much less think, when Lucas’s mouth was so close to hers.“Yes.”

“Then let’s make this good.”He lowered his head and pressed his lips to hers, softly at first.

Felina’s hands moved up his chest to lace behind his head as she pressed closer, her breasts smashing into his muscle-hardened chest.

His hands slipped over her lower back, not stopping until they cupped her ass, pulling her hips closer to his.

Her blood raced through her veins like molten lava, hot, thick and on fire, burning through her with such heat she could spontaneously combust at any moment.

Then he was setting her way from him.“That should about do it,” he said with a grin.

Felina swayed. She put it down to a lack of oxygen after kissing for so very long. She drew in a breath and let it out.“Yup,” she said, trying to make light of a kiss that had rocked her world.“That should keep Mrs.L.from pushing her grandson in my direction.”

Lucas held out his hand.“Keys.”

She frowned.“What? Why?”Her heart thumped against her chest. Was he going to take the kiss to the next step, follow her into her apartment and make mad, passionate love to her?Her heart swelled, and her core heated.

“I want to make sure your building is safe for you to enter.”

“Oh.”Like a balloon with a small hole pricked through the thin rubber, her heart deflated, and her core cooled. She dug in her purse for the keys and handed them to Lucas.“It’s not necessary.I keep it locked securely when I leave.”

“Consider it one of the perks of the job you hired me for. It’s what I do.I make sure the building is safe for my client to enter.”He took the key.“You live in your shop?”

She looked up.“In the apartment over the storefront. There are two entrances. One is around the side, and the other is in the back corner of the shop.We can go through the first floor.”

Lucas inserted the key into the door lock and turned the key and handle. He pushed the door open and stepped inside.

Felina reached around him, flipped the switch on the wall, and the room filled with light.

The front room of the shop was filled with silk flower arrangements and a large refrigerator with a glass front.Inside the refrigerator were the arrangements made from real flowers. Most were orders she’d worked on before closing that afternoon. They’d be delivered the following day along with other orders she’d arrange in the morning.

“I like how homey this feels,” Lucas said.“Reminds me of my mother’s house. She loves flowers and always has fresh flowers in a vase on her table.”
