Until they found the man who’d broken into her apartment, Lucas wouldn’t leave Felina’s side even if he had to sleep with her and not make love to her.

His attraction to Felina wasn’t all about sex.He was content to lie there holding her, making no move to take their physical contact to the next level.

He wasn’t averse to making love with Felina, but it had to be something she wanted, not something she felt obligated to give. He’d never force a woman or take advantage of her when she was in a difficult emotional state.

When they made love...and they would...it would be with wholehearted mutual consent.

And it would be beautiful, perfect and well worth the wait.

In the meantime, his body ached with a need he could not satisfy until then.

With his gun lying within reach, Lucas willed himself to relax and sleep.Granted, sleep would be light, with one eye open, his senses on alert. If the attacker returned, Lucas would be ready.

He could kick himself for driving away earlier, leaving Felina alone. He should have been there for her when her attacker busted down her door.

Instead, the man had escaped, leaving behind a huge mess of empty drawers, their contents flung across the floor.

Had he been looking for something? If so, what?Hopefully, he’d found it and left, never to return.

In the morning, they’d go over everything that had happened that evening.Though the shoving incident seemed separate from the break-in, Lucas had a feeling they were connected. How?He didn’t know. But he sure as hell would find out.

In the meantime, he’d carry his gun and stick with Felina like a second skin.

It was his job.

More than that...

It was Felina.

He couldn’t let anything happen to the woman he hoped would someday bear his children.

After Felina’s recent breakup with jerkface Marty, Lucas had an uphill battle ahead of him to bring the woman of his dreams around to believing he was the man of her dreams.

As she lay nestled in his arms, hope blossomed. At least he could hold her while she was dreaming.Maybe those dreams would one day include him.

Chapter5

Something brushedacross Felina’s forehead, stirring her awake. She blinked her eyes open to semi-darkness and an unfamiliar ceiling. As she shifted her gaze around the room, the realization came into focus.

She lay on the floor of her florist shop workroom.

Felina turned her face, her cheek pressing into taut flesh stretched over hard muscles.

What the hell?

She sat up straight and looked down at the man leaning up on his elbow, his dark hair tousled, a grin spreading across his face.

“I hated to wake you, but you said you wanted to be up early so that you could work on your floral arrangements.”

Felina nodded, her gaze sweeping the room, taking in the buckets of fresh flowers waiting for her to craft into tasteful bouquets for her customers.“I forgot to set an alarm.”Her eyes narrowed.“Oh, wait.Because my alarm clock is upstairs on my nightstand in my ransacked apartment.”She looked at Lucas as he sat up.“It wasn’t a bad dream?”

He reached out and brushed a strand of her hair back behind her ear.

His fingers brushing against her skin sparked an electric current that spread heat throughout her body, pooling at her core.

Her breath hitched, and she almost leaned into his palm.Fortunately, she caught herself short, appalled at how easily being with him could get out of hand.

She flung aside the blanket and leaped to her feet.“I have to get to work, and I need this space for my worktables.”
