I frown behind the blindfold. I don’t remember any red doors, but I imagine they connect this room with the rest of his mansion. “You’ll be home and not wearing your glasses?” I guess.

“Correct. I would probably hear you coming, but just in case. I would hate for there to be any accidents.”

That makes me wonder about other accidents he might have had. The thought is chilling. I know he said a look from a basilisk can kill. “What does it feel like?”

“What does what feel like?”

“I mean how do you kill people? How do they die?”

Silence. I hope I haven’t offended him. Once again, I’ve forgotten myself.

“Perhaps we can discuss this some other time.”

“Of course.”

Shit. I have offended him. That was a silly mistake.

The slight weight of him on the side of the mattress lifts. “I will see you again soon, I hope.”

I nod. “I’d like that. I hope you enjoyed yourself.” I really hope I haven’t just put him off.

“Oh, flower, I haven’t even begun. But that’s half the fun.” He chuckles darkly and I hear him move away across the room. Instead of footsteps, the slide of his tail is an unfamiliar sound.

I’m reassured by his laughter and his enthusiasm for fucking me again. I try to tell myself it’s only because he’s a valuable client, but it’s clearly more than that.

Erserro is intriguing in a way I find very few people. The more I find out, the more I want to know. That usually doesn’t happen to me.

After the click of a door shutting, I wait for a moment in silence.

“Erserro?”

No answer.

“I’m going to take off the blindfold now, OK?”

Still no answer.

Slowly, I reach up and slip the silky fabric off my eyes. I expect to blink into bright lights, but the room is dim, the heavy drapes closed.

Thoughtful.

Sliding from the bed, I intend to find my clothing, but instead I find a beautiful purple silk robe with enormous white flowers and green leaves, hanging on a hook by the door. Slipping it on feels amazing. The fabric is so luxurious on my skin and it instantly takes the slight chill from the climate-controlled room. I slide my feet into a pair of fluffy white slippers from the walk-in closet, then shuffle to the corner of the room with the sunken bath. It’s deep. I didn’t realize until I came close just how deep, but two steps lead down and it looks large enough I could sit and be immersed up to my neck if I filled it completely. There’s also room for at least two adults, probably more. So, of course, that gives me ideas.

Oh, I’m going to have some fun here.

First on the agenda is relaxing in complete luxury, while I take in my incredible good fortune. I run the bath and let it fill all the way up. Then I toss the robe and slippers aside and sink into it with a moan.

A girl could get far too used to this. I’d better keep him happy, because I’m already well on my way to being addicted to this job, and to Erserro himself.

SEVEN

Erserro

I press my finger over the sensor pad and descend into the cellar. The dark, cool space weighs me down as much as always. I move sluggishly across the stone floor.

I hate it down here.

Why am I wasting daylight hours here when I could be outside enjoying the sunshine and bright colors of a beautiful spring day?
