We need to talk

He answered immediately.

Charlie

I’m in my office. Come now.

Letting out a long breath, I took another swallow of my drink.

Me

K. Be there in a few.

I tucked my phone away, swallowed the rest of my drink, and stood.

Sebastian stood with me.

“I need to talk to Charlie alone,” I told him, nearly yelling to raise my voice over the music.

“You can talk to him alone, with me,” Sebastian called back.

I heaved a sigh. It was useless to try to fight off a Villin. The bastards were as stubborn as they were attractive. Sebastian was the oldest, and the most serious one.

The middle brother, Rafael, was the charming one. He was mated to my best friend Tatum, and they were in London at the moment, hunting down a rogue vamp.

The youngest brother, Zander, was the wild card. He was the techy one, and from what I could gather, the fun one.

He and I had only met in-person a few times, and he didn’t seem to like me. He always conveniently had somewhere else to be when we showed up at the same place. When we were stuck together for an extended amount of time, like at their family Christmas party (which Tatum dragged me along to), he stayed as far away from me as possible at all times.

I tried not to be offended.

Zander was the one who organized the deliveries of bagged blood that arrived like clockwork every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday, so I couldn’t really say hehatedme.

Sebastian followed me to the hallway that led to a few offices. The bouncers let both of us through, and we were in Charlie’s office a few minutes later.

It took serious effort not to suck in a breath when I saw his face, the same way it always did.

Evan, the bastard who had lied about being interested in me, was Charlie’s son. Because they were both immortal, they looked like brothers. They were almost identical, from their light skin, to their dark brown hair, to their deep, intelligent eyes.

Charlie had a small scar above his eyebrow, though, that Evan didn’t.

And it was Charlie sitting at a massive oak desk, with his rolling chair facing a couch.

Sebastian closed the door behind us as I sank onto the cushions. As I expected, Sebastian remained by the door in an effort to give me privacy.

It wasn’t really privacy.

We both knew that.

“There’s something wrong with me,” I told Charlie.

He frowned. “You couldn’t convince yourself to eat again? I told you, you just need to give yourself time.”

“I finally drank some guy’s blood.”

Charlie’s eyes lit up. “Nice! It was easier than expected, wasn’t it? Natural, even?”

“No, it wasn’t natural.” I brushed a chunk of curls out of my eyes, itching to tie my hair up in a bun just so there was one less thing driving me insane in the moment. “His blood tasted so awful, I almost puked. I thought it was supposed to beenjoyable.”
