Ah.

The beautiful nuisance notes and flowers had definitely continued.

“Don’t snoop,” I chastised, to avoid answering directly.

“That wasn’t an answer,” Tatum pointed out.

Damn them.

I sighed. “It’s an inside joke. I told him he was a nuisance, and he said he was a beautiful nuisance. According to him, beautiful nuisances can brighten your day. Hence the flowers, and the notes. He replaces them every time they start to die.”

“Okay, that’s adorable,” Brynn smiled. “How’s Julia doing?”

Brynn was definitely the nice one out of the three of us.

“I’m sure she’s fine.”

Brynn’s eyebrows lifted.

“When was the last time you saw her?” Tatum asked, clearly catching the bit I hadn’t said.

“Almost a week ago,” I admitted.

Brynn beamed. “You’re totally hooking up.”

Tatum grinned. “Finally!”

“Finally?”

“We’ve been waiting weeks for this,” Brynn informed me. “You guys are perfect for each other.”

“We’re still just friends,” I protested. “And we’re not perfect for each other.”

“Fate disagrees,” Brynn said.

“So does logic. How many guys would’ve thought to make you a list of options the way he did at the beginning?” Tatum added.

“He still fed me his blood without telling me,” I countered, though I was honestly over that.

“Mate bonds make you crazy. I have first-hand experience with that,” Tatum said.

I definitely agreed with her.

I had made him drink from me too, after all.

“Miles knows that,” Brynn said, grinning as we all got up and headed out. “She’s just trying to talk herself out of it.”

“Let’s talk about something else. Have you managed to get away from your scaly protector yet?”

Brynn made a face. “No. My brothers are the worst.”

“You used to think they were the best,” Tatum said.

“Well, they raised me. Right now, they’re the worst. I tried to convince Jasper and Eli to drag August’s ass back—out of here.” She stumbled over whatever she had to say, thanks to the magic preventing her from talking about wherever the dragons lived. “But they refused. They think I need protecting now that I’m associating with demons and vampires. No offense to you,” she added.

“None taken.” Tatum shrugged.

“I don’t blame them,” I admitted.
