“I plan on making an effort to hang out with Bishop more. Even though Toby and I don’t talk much, Bishop and I are still close; we text every day.”

“That’s good.” Rain smiles. “And he is besties with Toby. Like I said, he can’t avoid you forever.”

“Ugh, this is so stupid. Most of my life, I don’t think I went more than a day without seeing or talking to Toby. And now it’s weeks, sometimes months, before I can even say hi to him without him avoiding eye contact and acting like he would rather be anywhere else.”

“I can kick his ass if you want?” Rain smirks. “I’ll make him cry.”

That makes me burst out laughing. “I love you.”

She pulls me into her arms. “I love you too. But really, I’m here whenever you want to talk. And when it comes to you and Toby, if it ever goes where you’re hoping it would, I’m on your side.”

My eyes sting with tears. “Thank you.”

The boys come barreling into the room and out the door like the scene from Jumanji. The original, not the new ones.

Everyone parts ways to different cars, and I slip into mine.

It’s a little yellow Bug. Mom and I used to watch Once Upon A Time together, and when I saw Emma pulling up in her yellow Bug, I told my mom I wanted one when I was older.

On my sixteenth birthday it was waiting for me in the driveway. This car is my baby. I’m glad it’s not a real baby because it would have been taken away from lack of care, due to the fact that I know nothing about cars. All I know is how to drive one and that they need gas to run.

As I pull away from the house, excitement fills me. This is it, the start of my new life.

Only thing is, will that new life include the most important person to me? I can’t imagine not having him there by my side through all my big life moments.

I really hope things change. I guess there's only one way to find out.

BICKERING VOICES AS I approach my dorm room have a smile stretching across my lips. “If you don’t stop fucking with my shit, I’m telling Mom,” Bianca’s familiar voice drifts out into the hall.

A loud snort joins after. “Really, B? Gonna tattle on me to mommy? You're in college, buttercup, so suck it up. It’s only going to get worse.”

Knowing that Bishop’s here sends a thrill of excitement through me. I’ve missed him like crazy.

“Oh, thank god, you're here,” Bianca sighs when she sees me step into the room. “This asshole won’t stop touching my shit. Make him leave.”

I giggle, shaking my head. “You know better than me that Ship doesn’t listen to anyone.”

“Hey, that’s not true.” Bishop says as he playfully glares at me. “I listened to that cop one time when he told me to stop pissing on that statue when I was drunk.”

I roll my lips together, biting down to stop myself from laughing as I place the box in my hands on the empty bed on the other side of the room. I am not surprised at all by that, it sounds like something he would do.

“You’re crazy.” I roll my eyes and grin, moving back over to him.

“Only for you, sugar-tits.” He winks, and my eyes go wide before an embarrassing snort leaves my lips.

“Ewww, don’t talk about my friend's tits.” Bianca shoots him a disgusted look.

“Ah, sorry to break it to you, sis, but she’s my friend too.”

“Don’t remind me,” she scoffs.

“She was my friend first, actually.” Bishop chuckles. “How does it feel to know your bestie was mine before she was yours?”

“You might have become friends with her first, but I’ve been closer to her the last few years, so suck it.” She flips him off before turning to her boxes sitting atop her bed.

I don’t miss the flash of hurt that crosses his face, but it’s gone in the next breath.

“But that’s gonna change now.” Bishop turns to me. “Can’t believe you’re finally here. Going to school with us old guys.” He slings his arm over my shoulder, giving my elbow a little squeeze.
