I’m in tears, guilt smothering me as they finally get everyone to stop fighting and broken apart.

Jax is screaming at the team to get their asses to the locker room.

But the thing that surprises me the most is how Theo is shouting in Toby’s face. I’ve never seen that man so angry in my life.

Toby stands there and takes it, his jaw clenched, eyes wild and face bloody.

I feel like I’m going to be sick when they finally exit off the ice. Just before Toby disappears out of sight, he looks up at me and my heart stops.

Everything in me is telling me to go after him, to make sure he’s okay.

“Oh my god. That was wild,” Bianca says, still a little shell shocked. “I’m going to go wait outside the locker room and make sure Jonas is okay. And if a puck bunny starts something with me, we're going to get a repeat of whatever that was. Ugh, why do boys have to be so stupid! Animals, the whole lot of them,” Bianca growls, getting up and leaving.

“Are you okay?” Ryan asks, concern on his face.

Shaking my head, I blink away the tears, unable to speak, afraid I’ll break further.

He goes to give me a hug but I lean away. He doesn’t look hurt though, giving me a small smile.

I don’t want him touching me right now. I know this isn’t his fault, but I don’t want to be anywhere near him.

“Excuse me,” I say, my voice breaking as I get up and rush out of here, not stopping until I’m locking myself in a bathroom stall. Only then do I let the tears fall.

Chapter 30

Lillianna

One by one each of the hockey players come out of the locker room with their heads hung low and their shoulders tight.

I could hear not only Jax handing them their asses but my other dads too. I know that fighting happens in hockey, but what happened out there tonight, the first game of the season, wasn’t good.

And the amount of times Theo shouted that it makes SVU look bad is concerning. It doesn’t look good. One by one, everyone leaves.

“Jonas.” Bianca rushes over to him as he comes out of the locker room, Bishop’s not far behind him.

“Are you okay?” I ask Bishop, assessing the damage.

“I’m fine, il mio cuore. Just a bloody lip, black eye, and a sore jaw.” He gives me a forced smile, trying to play it off.

“Bishop.” I reach up and run my thumb over the cut on his lip. He hisses, and I go to move my hand back, afraid I hurt him, but he grabs my wrist and slowly brings it to his lips.

My pulse races as my breathing picks up. “I’m fine, baby,” he murmurs, kissing my wrist again softly before letting it fall to my side.

I swallow hard, my eyes flick back towards the locker room. I’ve watched everyone, including my dads, leave, all except Toby.

“How is he?” I ask, tears welling in my eyes.

“Hey, none of this is your fault.” Bishop cups my face.

“It is. I kissed Ryan after telling Toby we weren't dating. He thinks I lied to him,” I insist.

“Doesn’t matter if he does. You can kiss whoever the hell you want,” he growls, stepping forward. “Although I’d prefer being one of the lucky fuckers.”

He leans down and presses his lips to mine, making me whimper as my whole body flushes. He doesn’t take it further, pulling back and putting his forehead to mine. “But, if you must know, I don’t think he’s doing very good in there.”

“I gotta go see him.”

Bishop gives me a hard look. “I don’t think that’s a good idea, Lilly. He’s not in the best headspace right now. I don’t want you to get hurt. We’re in big shit. Disqualified for the next game.”
