“Surprised you didn’t know.” he chuckles, running a gloved hand over his blond hair. Okay, he’s cute. I get why Bee was distracted. “So, you gonna answer my text?” He gives her a flirty grin.

Oh no. Jonas skates over, stopping between Bishop and Clay. “What text?” he asks, looking between Bee and Clay.

“Ah...” Bee blushes. “Yeah?”

“Yes, you’re going to answer my text, or yes, you're gonna agree to go out on that date with me this weekend?”

“Both,” she squeaks, the red on her cheeks burning bright.

I do not miss the way Jonas’ face clouds over, jealousy marring his handsome face. He shakes his head and skates away, shoulders tense. I want to say I wish he would just tell her how he feels, but again, I don’t have a leg to stand on. Falling for someone who’s close to you is hard, you don’t want to risk what you have, but the longing for more is hard to deny. He’s like me. He would rather only be friends than take the chance of not having them at all.

“Dude.” Bishop’s face scrunches up. “That’s my sister.” He points toward Bianca.

“I know.” Clay chuckles. “And she’s pretty cool. I want to get to know her.”

Bianca makes her way down to the glass. “Bishop, shut it. I can go on a date with whoever I want.” She glares at him.

Clay looks over to me. “You cool if we double date?”

“What?” my brows furrow.

Clay chuckles. “Ryan is my buddy. He mentioned you two going out this weekend. But it's cool if you don’t want to.”

Bianca looks over with pleading eyes. “Ah... yeah, sure, that would be fun.”

“Cool.” He nods, looking back over to Bianca. “I’ll talk to you later.” He winks and Bianca grins, biting her lower lip.

“And that’s my cue to leave.” Jax chuckles, giving me a hug and kissing me on the top of the head. “See you later, sweetie. Might want to see your dads sooner than later before they track you down. They’re at the field from seven to eight tonight.”

“Thanks, dad, I will. Love you.”

“Love you too, sweetie.”

“Well, that was an eventful practice.” I turn to Bishop but he’s not standing there alone anymore, Toby is there.

“You okay?” he asks, his eyes searching mine.

“Yeah, I’m fine. Why wouldn’t I be?” I ask, head tilting to the side in curiosity.

“Newburry is a fucking creep.” Toby shakes his head, looking to Bishop. “We need to keep an eye on him. As good of a player as he is, I’m not tolerating his sexual-harassment bullshit.”

“Agreed.” Bishop nods.

“Gotta say, that was the first I’ve ever been mistaken for one of my dads’ side pieces,” I gag. “And dude must be stupid. Who talks to their coach like that?”

“Someone who thinks their daddy’s money can get them out of anything,” Toby scoffs. “He’s new. Transferred from another school in hopes of being seen by the reps for the NHL.”

“Can’t believe Theo let him in here,” Bianca comments, joining me at my side.

“Sadly, if his grades are good enough and there’s no reason not to let him transfer, there's nothing he could have really done without backlash,” Bishop says.

I feel Toby’s eyes on me and I try not to look, but I can see him out of the corner of my eye. Why does he have to be so sexy? Coming here was a bad idea.

“Want to go get something to eat before we head over to the football field?” Bianca asks, nudging my shoulder. “Maybe spend a bit of time with Ryan before practice.”

My eyes find Toby’s. His jaw clenches, gaze darkening. “You really think dating someone after you just got out of a two year relationship is a good idea?”

Brows jumping, my stomach drops. “Really?” I hate the way my voice cracks.
